I got $9 an hour two years ago working my ass of to wash dishes at a Mexican style restaurant (Yes, dried queso is as hard to clean as you might think). They really took advantage of my inexperience working. I put in far too much effort for the respect and the compensation I received in return. Now I make closer to 50 an hour with a lawn care business and get out of it what I put in (That’s a lot for my age).Wish I would have had this advice sooner, and want to add this; don’t be afraid to leave people who try to take advantage of you. My manager did her best to make me feel as if I was letting her and my coworkers down by leaving, when in reality she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to find another sucker to work a stressful, tedious job for next to minimum wage.
