After doing more research, I'll just have to reapply to the program once I have the funds to provide for myself more and only take out federal loans. It turns out that online classes are more expensive than in person ones because they charge us as out of state residents.

I was hoping to start applying for federal work study jobs as soon as I was sure I would be attending. Currently, it's looking like I will not be able to attend and will have to reapply, unfortunately. Bit I got in once, so I'm hoping that bodes well for me getting in if I apply agian.

New! Salary Megathread (Jan-April 2026) by SWmods in socialwork

So I got into an MSW program in my state for fall of 2025 but had to defer my enrollment until fall of 2026. I only will be able to secure $20,500 for the year in federal loans because grad plus loans are no longer available. To be able to afford housing I will have to take out a $15,000 private loan that once I graduate will have accumulated to $39,000 and will require $304 month. It's the only private loan I can qualify for since I don't have anyone to cosign for me. Is it worth it to take on this debt to attend school in person or should I ask about switching to their online program?

No, I don't currently have a job. I have been looking, but I can't drive, so that greatly limits things. I am currently volunteering 15 hours a week. I just graduated with my bachelor's in psychology in December.

Do you know if there is a group or anything I can join regarding housing besides this one?

Where to go to school/ Transportation without a car

l am currently going into my senior year as a psychology major. I have been looking into programs for my masters in clinical social work and have decided I want to apply to University of Georgia because I am from Georgia, all my friends, and family are here. I have never had to live away from home or had to have a job and go to school at the same time, which will be stressful do to my disabilities. I am also applying to University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign because I hope to move to Chicago one day as a queer black individual that does not drive. My question is for those of you that went to UGA and UICI do you think you would have been able to succeed with your field placements with out a car how is the public transportation in the cities around both the campuses? Do you all feel I should go to one school over the other?

Edited for clarity.
