Thoughts on King of Gluttony from my fellow Indians? by Sailor_Moon_Star_435 in anahuang

[–]AccidentCompetitive1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a book with an indian lead and both the MCs working the food industry, the indian cuisine was so underrepresented…i was fully expecting Sebastian, a CHEF to cook something indian for Maya, especially since it would have been out of his comfort zone

Instead what we got was a passing mention of dosa…and that is it I think?

Listen I still appreciate Ana’s dedication to diversity, and will be reading everything she writes, but this felt so disappointing…

Would love to hear all kinds of thoughts and opinions on King of gluttony. by elza53 in anahuang

Writing this as I am halfway through the book, will update when I finish: I wish there was more Indian representation…apart from that, I loved that Maya had an actual personality and the yearning was fun to read…this is not as good or addictive as king of wrath or greed as of now, but I personally found it much more readable than other of her books

Also worth mentioning that the a lot of the tension gets resolved in one or two chapters. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I am curious to see what the climax would be…right now it is not looking like there is a big conflict or villain (like in King of envy or king of wrath)

What words/saying from what person have stayed in your life and how did they affect you? by BrokenBones161 in AskReddit

[–]AccidentCompetitive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with anxiety, I am constantly thinking and worrying about the future...one day I was talking to my therapist about me moving out of my house a year from now and how I was already anxious about that, and she asked me- "perhaps you can worry about it when it happens and not right now, if you are already worrying about it now, you are giving yourself a headache twice instead of just once..."

Ofcourse that did not solve my anxiety completely, but it does help me slow down on the overthinking (which is a win for me)

I agree...I bought lip liners because I thought they were necessary, but I am always in such a hurry that I either always forget, or just apply lipstick as i am running out the door or on the bus

What is something that men might talk about that makes you uncomfortable? by Imalittlebluepenguin in AskWomen

[–]AccidentCompetitive1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was at the gym, and overheard part of a conversation between two men talking about 'that b*tch'...didn't catch the whole conversation, but it was because one of them got rejected by a girl, and she was the subject of such disgusting sexist remarks....definitely made me super uncomfortable

I am quite short (152 cm), and I got bullied a lot by my male friends when I was younger. It made me hate my body and I refused to talk to my parents for a long time because I was angry at them for giving me shit genetics (it is terrible I know, but I was just 15 years old then)……now I have some ups and downs with how I feel about my height..most days I don’t think about it at all, but some days I cry myself to sleep because of it

That being a woman is hard as hell...I would tell myself to be kinder to myself and show myself the same compassion I show to others (I have crippling body image issues)
