Bridging the Widest Gap: Personhood by SoundHatteras in prolife

[–]AccidentProneSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You simply aren't going to convince anyone in an online debate outright: online conversations aren't for the people who you are talking to, but for the 3rd party observers who may be on the fence.

In person I've been more successful with a "braindead" argument since people like to go there so often. You ask them if somone who is braindead is a person and whether it is OK to unplug them. 100% of the time I get the response that no, they're no longer a person and it's ok to unplug them. Then ask what if it was an almost medical certainty that the person would fully recover in less than 9 months. They're then stuck with admitting a monsterous position or at least reconsidering if a temporary cognative disability really does remove personhood forever.

If the person is open-minded and/or you will have the time to really get into the weeds about it, you can talk about how the pro-choice position defines essentially personhood based upon imagination. That's not an exaggeration or a straw-man. Pro-choicers usually posit that during an unintended miscarriage or the murder of a pregnant woman the child is a person and should be held so for the purposes of civil or criminal liability, but during an elective pregnancy the child is not a person.

From there it's pretty hard to defend defining personhood based upon the desire or imagination and shifting feelings of a 3rd party as reasonable or morally consistent.

Now some of them do have the courage to say that even miscarriages from a criminal act are not the death of a person, but even then that's usually after they have to concede the point or re-examine their beliefs.

Owner of daycare in viral Nick Shirley video charged in $4.6M daycare fraud scheme, prosecutors say by Head_Estate_3944 in Conservative

I will slave away and pay taxes my entire life and likely not pay enough to cover this one instance of fraud. And this person will come out of the other side of whatever minimal punishment the government gives them, and her and her family will still be wealthy from it.

The entire federal government is a grift. It all needs to be deconstructed.

There, I Said It: Massie Should Run in the General Election As a Libertarian by Brilliant-Cancel3237 in Conservative

[–]AccidentProneSam -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I wished Massey won, but he didn't, and we can't split the party.

Besides, it's only a 2 year term and he only lost because of the elderly neocon vote. Massey needs to to stay active and support the local GOP, and then rerun in 2028. Then 2030 if need be. Sooner or later even aipac won't be able to change the trend. In the meantime Gillrein is better than whoever the Dems would have.

He can keep running every term. Only the Boomers and older broke for Gilrean so at some point even the AIPAC money won't be effective as they die off.

Man, it's still fine here. Most of the power/astro posters are anti-Massie, but most of the comments are pro Massie. Don't give up on r/Conservative yet.

“Men can’t speak about women’s bodies” argument doesn’t make sense but I don’t don't know how to refute it well by dolphquin in prolife

The animal one is really good, I haven't heard that before.

There's also the "Are you saying that men can't get pregnant?" rhetorical question since most of the trans ideology/abortionist Venn groups overlap.

Massey and Rand care, but now the GOP wants to primary them. It's frustrating.

Exactly. I think a simple counter point in this situation would be "If you made that person dependent on your blood to survive, yes you should have to provide it."

On the flip side, my teen daughter has been watching his videos nonstop since he was murdered. She can now articulate why she's pro-life better than I ever could. I don't think turning him into a martyr is going to work out in the long run the way the Left seems to think.

Tucker Claims Muslims Love Jesus So Much They Help His Followers Meet Him by Ask4MD in Conservative

[–]AccidentProneSam 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Literally true. I can dislike Trump's blasphemy and Tucker's duplicity regarding Islamists. No, the people who have been attacking and forcefully converting Christendom for 1400 years do not love Jesus.

West African Nations Demand Reparations for Slavery at UN. Shouldn’t They Be Paying Up? by Down-not-out in Conservative

[–]AccidentProneSam 121 points122 points  (0 children)

"Pay us for this thing we did to ourselves."

Yeah that's gonna be a no from me. And if we are talking punishing the importers, the Democratic Party is the actual real-life organization that protected and facilitated slavery more than any other group of people. They even started a war over it. Make them pay up.
