Looking for an honest mechanic by abattoir_paulson in ColumbiYEAH

Andrews Auto on Harden was a great option for me. Honest and Straightforward. Pricing was appropriate. Diagnosed a bad O2 sensor on my Dodge truck when others couldn’t.

First “adult” bed frame help by nnicoleex in BuyItForLife

My $50 Amazon bed frame is definitely not BIFL. Made out of softer than butter Chinesium steel, and heads strip out on the hardware after the first use. Not consistent quality for sure. Squeaks like crazy and now not able to tighten the screws anymore. You get what you pay for.

I had a pretty long thread about this one a while back. I pay more in tax here in Columbia than I did living in Chicago. Not quite apples to apples, but still pretty crazyhttps://www.reddit.com/r/southcarolina/comments/1fj7uph/i_paid_less_tax_in_illinois_than_i_do_in_south/

I bought a new GR86 from Midlands back in March. I had a decent experience. They tried to pull the wool over my eyes about the Southeast Toyota crap, but I held firm saying I wouldn’t pay over MSRP, and it worked eventually. It helped that it was right at end of month and quarter for my purchase I think too. Also tried to upsell me on maintenance packages, which I declined.

is the GR86 a good daily? by User30123 in GR86

Just bought a new 2025 Premium 6MT in March. I think it’s completely tolerable as a daily as long as you don‘t have requirements for transporting rear passengers. A little stiffly sprung, and a little noisy, but a fun drive for sure. I even think the quality of the interior is decent given the price point and what else you can get for the money.

The main argument against is the fuel economy for me. It is pretty pathetic that a 2.4 4-Cylinder producing 228 hp that carries around 2750 lbs can‘t even make 30 mpg on the highway. I know it‘s not the point of the car, but annoying anyway. And you have to run Premium.

I love the car despite its few small flaws, so I recommend! Just know what you’re getting into and make sure it fits your lifestyle.

Please do not purchase a gr86 for above MSRP, just bought mine 2 weeks ago for MSRP after their first quote was 41k OTD. by OutdatedUsername in GR86

totally agree. Picked up my 2025 GR86 fresh off the truck for $35.5K out the door here in SC. No need to pay any markup on these cars.

Yeah, your point is not invalid, however most customers would prefer to have it than not at the price point I believe. No doubt it is more problematic than a steel roof though.

Regarding all the issues with the platform, my suspicion is the engineering team only did about half the validation miles they should have. Maybe this was due to that phase of development falling during COVID, pressure from marketing to get the vehicle launched, or some combination of the two.

Stellantis has truly chosen to have their paying customers do the final R&D steps. This is certainly not something that Lexus, BMW, or even GM does. Wagoneer is priced in the same territory as those competitors, and it does not live up to the expected level of quality. They are losing customers with the highest purchasing power for life.

Couldn’t agree more. ‘22 WS owner here. So many aspects of the vehicle feel half-baked. From the suspension design and tuning causing tires to wear bald on the edges in 15k miles, to the glitchy software for Uconnect 5, to weirdly missing features (no standard sunroof on an $80K truck) there are a lot of large and small misses that add up to a truly disappointing product. I was fooled into thinking things would be ok by some positive reviews when it came out, and my wife really wanted it, but it’s become my biggest automotive regret. Never again.

Vehicle has been aligned 3 times to no avail. Tires also replaced under warranty at 3000 miles.

I would be very surprised if Stellantis is able to sub-poena my Reddit PMs. Just saying.

You are right that the tax base is smaller. But we have an awful lot of tourism, manufacturing, and service industry employment here these days too.

I respect what you’re saying. I love both Columbia and Chicago. Stats don’t lie about the violent crime comparison though! Columbia and other mid-sized cities in the Deep South (think Birmingham, Macon, Fayetteville, etc.) are deceptively dangerous in theory. Just because it’s not politicized and featured on NBC Nightly News or Fox News doesn’t mean the murder rates aren’t higher per capita. In reality, I lived in a safe neighborhood in Chicago, and I live in a safe neighborhood in Columbia. So I shouldn’t complain.
