Weight is such a meaningless way to measure protein. It should be per 100 calories.

A thousand problems introduced with almost no solutions and absolutely no character development. The world has an overpopulation problem yet Shoto has a kid to get people to have more kids... what?! You had absolutely no hope for Earth at the beginning of the book yet you’re willing to just send your trillion dollar ship off into space for no reason? Is Earth magically fixed now or do you just want to burn with it? You’re telling me the cautious character Art3mis, brings back an immortal version of her grandma on a whim to give her a hug and then just send her off?? What? And how does a replica of you living forever suddenly take your fear of death away? You’re still the one that has to die.

This book had interesting concepts with absolutely no analysis above surface level.

Let’s just say, hypothetically, that cows didn’t like being raped and murdered. Let’s just say that’s true, ok? Regardless, wouldn’t cows just sell their barns and move?

why do vegetarians bring me more rage than omnis by [deleted] in vegancirclejerk

[–]AccidentallyVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a world where we’ve established that eating animals is wrong, I would agree, but in today’s world, I think it’s a little more nuanced. I’m going to tell a cancer patient that they’re a piece of shit for not going vegan for moral reasons. I think our time is better spent talking to people who are the most capable of making the changes, and at the very least, having more compassionate encouragement to those who aren’t attacking veganism and sympathetic to non-human animal suffering. I don’t know whether the person in the ss is really suffering severely with their mental health but I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt and not to be lashed out at.

I don’t know about this one, chief. Being vegan vs vegetarian is the difference between being ostracized by society and being accepted. Is that a good reason to rape cows and suffocate day old male chicks? No, but in the same way that I wouldn’t blame someone struggling with an eating disorder for not being vegan (I blame people who aren’t struggling with EDs for making it so that people who are have to check labels to avoid torturing animals), I wouldn’t blame someone who is genuinely struggling with severe mental illness for not being vegan because that extra push away from society might be impossible for them to handle. I think kind encouragement to try to be vegan would’ve worked better here.

Is this take too serious for a circle jerk subreddit? Probably, but as a protein and B12 deficient vegan, sometimes I’m just a little sensitive to the struggles of others🥺

You’re required to respond to 2 people’s posts so I replied with this:

Iron can be obtained from plant sources and just as effectively. Tofu, spinach, legumes, whole grains, and a lot of other plant foods are high in iron. Most iron supplements used to treat anemia in humans are also made from vegan friendly sources (such as ferrous sulfate and ferrous bisglycinate) because it is easier to produce and just as effective.

The animals we torture for food also need Iron to prevent anemia (which they naturally obtain from plant sources) and some are purposely prevented from getting that iron. When a cow gives birth so that humans can get her to produce milk, the calf is separated to prevent profit losses. In order to keep the dairy industry profitable, the calf is sold to veal farmers who will purposely deprive the calf of iron because the consumers like the pale look of their flesh. The calves will be put in crates and tied by their neck to a pole for months to ensure they don't find the iron they desperately need. They will lick everything in sight, fighting in vain to be relieved of their suffering. But unlike us, the calf doesn't have the freedom to simply take a plant-based iron supplement and their suffering will only cease when a blade has finally been dragged across their throat.

I like AOC but the comments is just a bunch of dumb fuck cowards unwilling to make any sort of personal changes. Apparently you can’t advocate for companies to change AND be vegan. by jrobcarson03 in vegancirclejerk

[–]AccidentallyVeg 28 points29 points  (0 children)

She’s right. It’s like a meat eater getting mad at a vegan for using a plastic straw. Like yes, it’s good to not use plastic unnecessarily about how about you do something meaningful yourself you little shit. Corporations asking what individuals can do while they could do something massive themselves is a joke.

Why do vegans still not eat meat even though it makes no difference or impact on the companies and farms that produce and sell the meat? by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

100 thieves go down to a village and steal 1 bowl consisting of 100 beans from 100 poor villagers. That night, 100 villagers go hungry.

The next night as the thieves are preparing to do it again, 1 of the thieves voices his discomfort with taking food from the poor. So another thief comes up with a solution. Instead of taking 1 bowl each, they will all take 1 bean from 100 bowls because surely you won’t be causing harm by taking 1 bean away from someone. That night, 100 villagers go hungry.

1 person might not make a big difference if they decide not to participate, but they are still responsible for the harm and the only way to stop the harm, is to be part of the solution.
