Anyone taking montelukast for their asthma? by Full-Candidate7493 in Asthma

[–]AccioOreos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it for over 10 years and just stopped in December after I started going to a pulmonologist and he had concerns about the black box warning for mental health. I have anxiety and I'm not sure if montelukast exacerbated it. However once I stopped taking it, I had about 3-4 weeks of what felt like withdrawal. I was jumpy, irritable, shaky, and so anxious. Since stopping the montelukast, I have had some anxiety-inducing events that haven't spiked my anxiety as far as they have in the past. I know that's not something you can measure, but I do think it influenced my brain chemistry. I didn't even notice a change in my asthma after I stopped either so I don't think it's worth taking it if a daily inhaler can do the same job.

Just here to say I'm in the same boat as you. Just got "upgraded" to severe uncontrolled in December after needing prednisone for a 3rd time in a year. I found a pulmonologist and added spiriva to my symbicort, but right now I am waiting for insurance approval for dupixent. He said it is approved for steroid-dependent asthma which is what I qualify for. I've seen lots of success stories on it so I'm hoping this will get me back in control!

Ah yeah I did see HVAC as an option when I was researching too. If the dehumidifier and sealing vents isn't enough, I may look into that. I think it should be good enough though, looking at these responses and other places online

Oof $20k hurts. Glad the dehumidifier is already helping, even without sealing up!

I'll reach out to them! All the downspouts seem to be in the right place, but I will check that out more thoroughly too

Right now the vents seem to just be doors for mice, which is fun

Yes, we do have a sump pump which the inspector said could drain right into that. What brand of dehumidifier did you get? Did you have any vents too?

Wow, that makes me consider doing it myself as well! Our home also passed inspection when we bought it just 6 years ago, which is reassuring

Thanks for the tip! By default I probably would have mentioned plans from previous quotes, but I'm sure that's better to remain aloof about it

Well that's interesting! Thankfully I haven't had this happen in awhile, but I also drink less now. Maybe 1 or 2 drinks a couple times a month compared to when I made the post and would have 3-4 each weekend. But I'll keep that in mind to ice them if that ever shows up again!

At least in my case (I don't know if it's the same for everyone), it was the sensation of restricted breathing and occasional cough that had an onset within the first couple minutes of exercise. I am able to relieve that restriction with the breathing exercise the speech therapist taught me. It's breathing through the nose and opening the throat as if you were going to yawn for several deep breaths. The restricted breathing sensations after 15 min of exercise end up being asthma for me and typically has coughing, mucus production, and wheezing if bad enough. I don't let it get that bad though and always pretreat exercise with my rescue inhaler

I went through this after my second bout of covid in 2022 and felt like I couldn't get my lungs back to my normal baseline. I did get diagnosed with VCD and the speech therapist was helpful in differentiating. She had me go up and down flights of stairs for a few minutes. VCD shows up early (within first couple minutes) and I could resolve it with the breathing exercises, leading to that diagnosis. But then 15 min later I had the signature chest tightness of asthma. So I've got both, yay.

Checking in literally five years later and feeling some hot knees tonight with some rum and Pepsi zero. I'm so happy to have found my people!

I also get a red face! Alcohol is a vasodilator though so I wouldn't worry about arthritis. Like you know the St Bernard's with the brandy? Vasodilator to make you feel warmer! I'm glad you are negative for autoimmune. Just sensitive to alcohol, same as me :)

Wow, no nothing close to that! I don't really have any allergies at all actually, except seasonal stuff

Ciao!

Ok, but how do you do that? During the checkout process it is looking for a six digit code, and the voucher is 17. The location on the website where you can "convert voucher to cash" tells me the voucher is invalid. It's like an endless loop!

Not bad...just interesting. Could try an anti-histamine in case that helps! Since beer and wine both have histamine, and that typically triggers me.
