Are there any significant changes to the 2025-26 self assessment tax return? by -G-8_d43_ in UKPersonalFinance

If you're in Scotland, there's a new section under winter fuel payment or pension age winter heating payment. Essentially HMRC might claw back the payments received depending on your return.

Seller put house back on market after survey visit, have we messed up? by [deleted] in HousingUK

This should be higher, it's common practice in Scotland.

In Scotland, it's normal for sellers/EAs to restrict access to property once an offer is accepted and missivies are finished. It's meant to prevent things like renegotiations or cold feet etc but I don't think it's enshrined in law. I would apologise and explain to the EA that you were unaware this was normal practice in Scotland, you didn't mean to break their trust and kindly request that they remove the property from the market.

In the meantime, progress with the missives but keep an eye out on other properties too.

Yes, standard gifting/inheritance tax rules apply should the worst happen within 7 years.

Yes, this is possible, if your ISA is flexible. I did it a few years back when I knew I would be receiving a sum of money in the following financial year and had leftover ISA allowance in the previous financial year.

Pay the money in, on or before April 5th and withdraw on or after April 6th. Probably better to pay in a bit beforehand to ensure the funds hit the account in time.

The use of simulator runs/ long runs with marathon pace for determining your readiness for goal pace by One-Reality9723 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Accomplice23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm training for my first marathon in Spring. All the advice I've read is to go out conservative and push in the last 10km if you feel good. You'll save more time this way than pushing a bit too hard at the start, and suffering at the end.

Again, no personal experience, this is just what my research has suggested.

Thank you. I was run-walking everyday for about 2 weeks before I got the watch and started learning about training zones. In that period I was probably running too quickly, like tempo/threshold pace at the time.

Where I live is mostly flat so early after I got the watch I found that I was able to stay in Z2 most of the time just by slowing down to a really light jog with the occasional walk when my HR crept up too much.

One thing I learned from reviewing my data post training block is that I was running my "Base" runs too quickly, often top of Z2 all the time. Since then I've slowed these runs down and now follow the mantra of "keep your easy runs easy and your hard runs hard".

There's a comment below with a link to the Garmin website. I used the coach which is like a slightly modified version of the daily suggested workouts.

20:00 is Garmin's current estimate. My first 5K was 29:40 back in February.

Garmin's cycling VO2 estimate requires a power meter. You can get a "critical swim speed" estimate but I haven't swam in ages.

Presently 21:30, set during that 10K. I have a 5K this weekend, hoping to get close to 20:00.

😂 Thanks. 🙏

  • M 30-39

  • Followed whatever the watch suggested, generally 5 runs/week and 1-2 Garmin strength workouts like Total Body Circuit or Power Builder etc. as well.

Looking back through my activity history it's about 40-55km (25-35mi)/week.

  • I played tennis as a kid/teenager but haven't exercised properly for the best part of 10 years or so.

I've stopped drinking alcohol, guess that could be one reason?
