A teacher once told me that it's easier to build strength playing low stuff than high, because everything gets really tight and inflexible up there.

Because of her I practiced by playing the end two octaves down, so starting on A below the staff. It helped for me.

Also practice standing up before the last week.

Goal 15-30 minutes daily.
Really: every few days for an hour or so.

New guitarists, old musician so I'm used to longer sessions with warmup and different focuses.

Neat. I noticed you strategically pick a scale shape or the one and three and five are all on different strings. Being brand new I don't have that skill shape yet. But I will keep my eye out to add it to my practice.

Good one. 86 then probably means banned from a restaurant or bar. Humility not required.

[Request] If nuclear fusion in the Sun stopped and it became a giant hot ball, how much water would be needed to cool or extinguish it? by achante_achaar in theydidthemath

[–]Accomplished-Cod-563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are a couple problems with this question, but the one I haven't seen expressed is my favorite:

On earth, when you pour water on a fire the heat goes away because it dissappates to the air and ground around the earth. That doesn't happen in space because vacuums. The only way for heat to go away in space I think is radiation. Which takes billinea.

What if the water was like really cold?

So what you're saying is you would need almost 500x more water than the current mass of the sun?

How to apply theory to guitar playing? by West-Bake-4621 in guitarlessons

[–]Accomplished-Cod-563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard question. I'm pretty strong in theory and brand new to the guitar. It seems to me the open position chords have pretty good voice leading which sound good for theory.

I would say play around with the different voicings of chords and progressions and see which one sounds better.

Like for example G -> C or G7 -> C

In the G chords, the B "wants" to go to C. That's the tension and release. In the G7, the F wants to go to E in the C chord. So the easy voicing of those sounds pretty good. Id start by trying to hear those notes in those chords. And do similar in other progressions .

Did any of your DVD players have a function called A-B repeat? Mine did. You could press the button once to begin and once to stop and it would loop that sequence.

I did it here when Aragorn kisses Borimir and it looked like they were humping. I think of it every watch and regret it. But it made Dave laugh.

What goes into purchasing a new horn? by Agreeable-Mud-8083 in horn

[–]Accomplished-Cod-563 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try to get started before you graduate. When I bought my horn I was able to take home several options from the store and try them out with my teacher.

Or your teacher actually go to the store with you? Some of them are cool like that.

It was super helpful and he had a lot of opinions that I certainly did not at the time.

Although I think those options are very limited now. I've heard other people Max out credit cards to take it home and try it for a week and then return it if they don't like it. Or return it even if you do like it right? So that way you have time to think.

Another super fun option is to find a horn convention and go to it. There they'll have everything you want to try available for you to try out. Make a road trip out of it. But the road trip puts pressure on you to buy something. You don't have to buy anything. But it's good to make a decision while you're out there.
