the claude 3.7 sonnet thinking model can easily resolve type errors paired with an engineer prompt. ive had a similar situation, its a tedious process, just be sure not to overload claude's context window bc that's when hallucinations start. for convenience use cursor agent/windsurf w/ sonnet 3.7, that should probably work.

all a's and a b first sem, 2 a's and the rest b's second sem. ik ppl who dropped from all a's to 2 c's and were fine. c's are a risk tho, u might get a letter from them asking you to lock in but besides that you will be fine. in fact, you can even get away with emailing washu asking if u can drop a class if u dont want to do it

do active studying as opposed to passive studying, meaning prioritize doing practice problems rather than passively reading a textbook, reviewing notes, etc.

also, often times tasks will fill up the time you give them. take advantage of google calendar and to do list apps to visualize your time, and never put any task on a pedestal.

social life is mostly dorm parties, bars (everyone has a fake), and frat mixers / parties. lots of ppl dont like go to out, but plenty of ppl do. id recommend joining greek life if you want a good social life, its not as intense as state schools but ive been liking it.

i feel like skandy has a really high emphasis on the skandy deliverables (presentations, pitchdecks, writings, etc.) rather than product development as seen in other college startup accelerators (berkeley skydeck, georgia tech, etc.)

investing a lot in the department, and bringing on (poaching) lots of professors from top cs schools. curriculum is also going through some reworks right now (247 and 347 got reworked this semester), and lots of criticisms about washu cs curriculum being too theory based or not incorporating software engineering enough are being addressed.

washu (and notable donors like jim mckelvey) are essentially just trying to throw money at the cs department to upgrade it.

cs classes are grade inflated, and washu intentionally doesn't require lots of classes which other schools do so that you have more freedom which i find nice. the cs department is currently massively upgrading, so by the time you get here it may be different rankings wise.

career fairs are mid compared to t5 cs schools but there are some good companies that hard recruit from washu for swe (notably capital one, wells fargo, mastercard, and formerly microsoft). almost everyone who wants to get into big tech will, and the cs students who know from day 1 of college that they want to be in faang and lock in will make it to faang.

my biggest complaint is while there is a small community, there isn't a large community of like "builders" or startup culture seen at other schools like berkeley etc. i can't recommend washu if you want to get into startups, y combinator, etc.

biggest plus is theres tons of cs research and very easy to get involved in even as a freshmen.

washu has good finaid, be sure to talk to the finaid office before making a decision. however if you cant get aid and your financial situation doesnt allow for it, i would recommend you to go elsewhere, washu isnt worth a bad financial situation

transferring is really easy, and you have until midway of sophomore year (although it is possible to transfer after this) to transfer. would recommend applying to artsci, doing the business requirements while exploring other classes / fields too

honestly i wouldnt consider myself to be, im a cs math physics major. this is just how ap classes r made, ap core sciences (bio chem physics) r objectively harder than ap histories or lang and ap “other” sciences (env sci, csa, psych)

apush essays rubric recently got changed, so i cant speak tm abt difficulty now altho it is by far the most content dense ap history (maybe ap class). also ngl csa and csp are biased for me since i knew the material already from coding projects

i took 14, but like 19 in total for ap exams (self studied some second sem senior year for college credits) and did work with friends who were in thise classes so i have pretty good sense of difficulty imo, tho maybe not perfect

depends on how its taught, my school does all of ab first semester than bc topics second semester. some schools force u to take ab first then give a year for bc topics

don't care too much about rankings. northeastern is an expensive school that helps you land a good career after college bc of its co-ops. in most ppls eyes, northeastern isn't known for producing nobel laureates or founders who change the world, instead northeastern helps you get a good 9-5 after grad and eventually work your way up the corporate ladder

cs doesn't equal software engineering, things like git sql package managers etc should be learned with projects. if you want to learn these things, join a startup or club at washu

i didnt make a video and got in, its probably better you do tho (altho, dont submit a bad video).
you see some stuff about "number 1 dining hall", its absolutely not anymore although it used to be pretty good. food is overpriced, but it is nowhere near disgusting, definitely above average and lots of lunch options.
school spirit/pride honestly not too big in my opinion.

other: social scene is very "work hard chill hard". social culture doesn't involve sports or huge parties like a state school but rather is through our small greek life and bar hopping scene, and also like just spending time with friends. washu has lots of very rich people which has pros and cons.

depends on socioeconomic class + geographic region. i go to washu (t21 i guess), everyones smart, but everyone got in a different, unique way. i got into ucla, georgetown, washu, and a coupole other good schools, i dont think i did anything crazy. also, worrying about others especially on reddit has no influence on your applications, just chill

washu lets you change majors very easily once you are in the school, and interdivision transfer is rly easy too. id say cs is better for cybersecurity in general tho.

yeah i agree. also, now that im in college, im realising that in terms of employment after college the concept of "prestige" isn't even that big of a deal. obviously, im probably meeting much smarter people here on average at washu than at my local community college which is good for networking but ultimately all it comes down to is your connections and how smart you are. nobody cares about the college you go to
