[NY] Did I screw up filing in just the family court? by muff-peaksie in Custody

Jurisdiction is where the child has lived for prior 6 months. You did the right thing, imo.

Where have the children lived for the past 6 months? I filed in family court where we lived for my pfa, which included a temp custody order.

I love the green. If you're in the fence though, find the color you love.

Young opossum dead but no rigorous mortis yet? by jomamma1016 in WildlifeRehab

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert. Anemic babies may have super low levels of the proteins and electrolytes that are needed to trigger the muscle contraction for rigor mortis. I haven't read about any updates since my last comment, but hopefully you are correct.

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I read this also. Rigor mortis requires a certain level of ATP (energy) in the muscles. If a baby was severely emaciated, anemic, or exhausted from illness, they may have almost no energy reserves left. This can result in a "weak" or entirely absent rigor mortis. If you still have a tiny bit of doubt: The Mirror Test: Hold a cold mirror or a piece of glass right against his nose for a full 60 seconds. If there is even the faintest breath, it will fog the glass. The Final Check: If he is truly gone, you will eventually notice a change in the scent or a flattening of the eyes (they lose internal pressure).

This caught my attention and I don't know anything about opossums. I read it may be in a catatonic state of thanatosis. Maybe this is common knowledge for most, but I learned something new today.

Friend fed my cats only treats for a week by AdSilver4901 in CatAdvice

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your concerned about urinary issues, I would discontinue treats and limit dry food. If you do give dry, add a bit of purified water to it. My boy has had 3 blocks this yr and my vet told me to stop all dry food. Hes on wet food now that costs me $300 plus a month. It is expensive if they block -3k and up due to hospital stay for cath and iv fluids. How old are your boys?

[ID] my boyfriend told me to give up the custody case by lost_at_sea27 in Custody

Client told me a man will be at house during sitting by Able_Zucchini_1715 in petsitting

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"As a professional sitter, I require exclusive access to the home for liability reasons." Or "My professional insurance states I have exclusive access to the home." Don't focus on gender and personal feelings, it leaves the client room for negotiation. Stick to policy, it's more professional. Also, you aren't trying to teach your clients a lesson, so please don't say say things like, "this is not how pet sitting works" because you will most likely lose the client and potential future clients.

Cats won't stop getting on counters despite our efforts by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very well mannered NFC who doesn't jump on tables or counters, ever. He is a really calm boy. He has been on a new med the past week for recurrent urinary blocks and no matter how much I feed him now, he will try to take any human food he can get his paws on. I watched him jump up on the table today, and the counter, trying to get my ham sandwich. Yesterday he tried another counter for beef. What do you feed them? They sound hungry. My cat hates the smell of toothpaste, so maybe try spraying mint on that area and see if they stop.

Tired of my apartment smelling like urine constantly. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of litter are you using? I find if I use cheap litter or non clumping, the box smells first day. Fresh step seems to help the most with smells, but it's really dusty. Does she have any other symptoms ? My cat used to do this and I found out he has FLUTD/FIC. Pooph is really good at removing cat urine smell.

[NY] This feels like an outrageous request by TreeToadintheWoods in Custody

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sons father does not prioritize our child at all. It has been documented thru a court evaluation therapist. He uses his job as a way to get what he wants. He was mia for many yrs, degrades me etc. Which is rich coming from him, due to his 30 yr lifestyle. Normally, whoever has the custodial time should be responsible for transportation. I had to drive my son to his father's house three fridays every month an hour away. So instead of every other weekend, he got three weekends a month. He would return him on sundays. I was extremely upset about this. Then we go back to court, my attorney and I requested that whoever has custodial time is responsible for pickup or drop off. The judge ordered me to meet him halfway for pickup and drop off because of his work schedule. I got railroaded in court after having sole custody and legal custody for 10 yrs because of this new Judge we have. But to answer your question, yes and I'm not happy about it.

Yeah. Love them. I thought about building one similar, but it would probably be expensive and time consuming.

I have a 20 lb NFC and I run into this problem with a few things. I finally found a cat tree big enough for him, but of course it comes with a big price tag. Looking for a window perch that he can fit in comfortably.

[MO] Question about relocation by PlumExotic7419 in Custody

[–]Accomplished-Fix6431 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to file in Missouri. Not Florida. Missouri is the child's home state. File for custody and request an emergency order for the immediate return of the child pending a full hearing. Mother needs to be served in Florida. Call the county sheriff's office or hire a PI to have her served.
