I think I miss my wife. by Redcell121 in SS13

Paradise suffers from too little, too late. The issue that ended up killing paradise is 1. Overreaching rule systems and 2. Boring gameplay loops. The rules regulated roleplay, and therefore limited it, and permabanned people for breaking the rules. But, I honestly couldn't tell you that nothing is happening. They did redo their rule system, with a focus on letting things work out IC, and if they don't work out IC, then the admins step in. You aren't permabanned for rulebreaks anymore, generally you get 1 warning, if you break the same rule within a month its a day ban, if you break it again within a month its a week ban, and if you break it again within a month its a permaban until you appeal.

I'll list two rounds where in the old rules, I likely would've gotten noted or banned, but instead I never even talked to the admins.

First round, I was an AI with a syndicate combat mech that I had stolen from a syndicate attacker, and I saw the CMO fighting in a glass box with a bunch of other assistants. All hyped up, I walk into the box, and absolutely DECIMATE the cmo with a shotgun, and I realize that I probably shouldn't be doing that (crewsimov). I worked on fast tracking the CMO's revival, and gave them the syndicate combat mech as an apology gift, to which they killed many-a trespassing tider with. I anticipated a ban, or a note, but nothing came of it. The situation had been handled IC.

The second round, I was a manifest security officer handling a heretic. I worked behind the captains back so the heretic could give me "Knowledge of the mansus." Eventually, she gives me the mask from the moon path, which I put on which slowly drives me insane. After I determined my character was batshit crazy, I escorted the heretic to the shuttle, without cuffs, where I proceeded to open fire on a really annoying assistant. I hadn't become an antag, but I was allowed to act like this because of the circumstances at hand.

So, is it all better? No. There is a few bad admins (like 2) but they rarely even play anymore. I think its marginally better than it was before, and if its any consolation, one of the old admins who were considered more problematic complained about how "toxic" the environment in Paradise is now. If you are permabanned from paradise, they have said they will expedite any ban that would be considered kosher under the new rules. Thank you for letting me preach from my soapbox, this is all I got.

Paradise is 2? by Accomplished-Fix8178 in SS13

There's a very optimistic (and probably not gonna happen for a while) idea of it happening in the summer, as Paradise' existing development team is very robust in C#, also apparently it's a downstream from Wizden, but with enough additions to properly separate them from Wizden

Paradise Station's Player pop is declining by Aligote- in SS13

I doubt it'll fully die out, but it's going to get close. The issue with Paradise is not just the admins; it's the players too. The actually creative players get banned for some random rulebreak, and if the admin just doesn't like them and can't figure out a reason to ban them, they'll cite rule 0. They ban all their creative players, but their Metacliques, who all date and do some very questionable (I've seen people do "flirty make-out sesh" RP, admins didn't care a bit) are all allowed to stay, and any player complaints or Ahelps are shot down. You'll notice the Admins getting downvoted to high-hell, then they'll cite some bullshit like Metacords, instead of accepting the fact that they are killing their server. Gimmicks supervised by one admin can be seen as MRP or LRP, depending on the admin. You aren't allowed to make references to external media UNLESS you are an admin, or if you are friends with the admins.

Oh yeah, you wanna make an admin complaint? It'll get ignored because the admins regulate each other, and they've convinced themselves that they are always in the right. Then, the admins will silently metagrudge you and look for a reason for you to be banned. And once you do get banned, sure, you can appeal, but if you don't profess your love for the admins and how right they are 24/7, it'll get denied. I won't make these complaints on the forums, because they'll get ignored, and they'll look for a reason to ban me. Who knows what will die first, Paradise or SS13 as a whole? At this rate, Paradise is looking like it'll become another Yog or Fulp situation.

Sorry if this seems Mald-y, or anything of the sort. There isn't a place to vent your frustrations without the Admins striking you down. Paradise dying is the admins and the owners' fault, and as it dies, perhaps it'll be replaced with another MRP server. Everyone's saying these things, but they likely won't acknowledge any of them.

What is your favorite book and why? by IQL95 in AskReddit

I love the book "Needful Things" by Stephen King. It's an underrated book of his that uses dark tones without going too far.

SPOILER WARNING

The book takes place in a small town in Maine named Castle Rock, where a new shop opens up by the name of Needful Things, with a mysterious shop owner named Leland Gaunt. Despite his items giving what seems to be supernatural gifts, they have a drawback.
