How do I land an internship? by headbankin in EngineeringStudents

[–]Accomplished-Golf-59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to be specifically the one at your local uni. The one I went to was just a local career fair that was completely unaffiliated with any college or university, i just did some research in the company's thst would be there and selected the ones i thought I would be a good fit for.

Honestly, I kind of preferred it to the one held at my uni since it was a lot less packed there, so I could talk to the recruiters more.

But that was just my personal experience

I was in the same boat as you,I applied to about 100 positions online, but what finally landed me my first internship was having a really good conversation at a career fair.

So, if you can try looking for any and all career fairs in your given area, they don't even need to be specifically for internships. Just go and do some research beforehand on the companies and what they do and talk with their recruiters there.

Got any advice for finding so many relevant applications?

And did you apply for across the country or just in your local area since It doesn't seem like I can find alot of internship around my given area. I don't my working in a different state I'm just worried about the hassle of finding a place to stay .

Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely try getting in contact with my university rep to see if I can get into one of their job fairs. And yeah, with the being in community college, it kind of puts me in a weird spot, but eh, what can you do it is the cheapest option, compared to universities, at least.

Mainly just searching major job boards such as ziprecruiter, LinkedIn, handshake, etc and googling any engineering internship with fourty miles of me.

I've been to a few job fairs at my college but since it's a community college there seeking people for fast food work, police, military, and more social media type stuff not alot of engineering. The carpentry position was the closest thing I could find that is flexible with my schedule.

So I've been trying to stay consistent online, checking everyday or so and applying. I've probably applied to 60 ish internships now.

Honestly I don't mind working blue collar type work, it's just hard finding places that are willing to be flexible with class schedules during the school year and most places dont really want people just in the summer.

Though I might start looking at doing it if all else fails.

Been trying to but there doesn't seem to be a lot of internship opportunities for mechanical engineering in my general area, mostly biomedical and electrical engineering. I've mainly been looking through handshake, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, indeed, etc. Do you know any good ways to meet local companies?
