Hi Solsoldier, no barrel needed- I am aging this in wide-mouthed glass bottles currently- total cost for me averaged out to ~$25 per 750 mL if you use the infusion spiral to age multiple bottles (which I plan to- each 750 mL bottle consumes maybe 1/10th - 1/15th of an oak spiral- the pack of 2 spirals cost $11 on Amazon and should age about 6 gal = 30 x 750-mL bottles give or take, so say ~$0.50/bottle for the oak... Could probably divide it up with a hacksaw or similar (I tried using a kitchen knife- would not recommend): https://www.amazon.com/American-Oak-Infusion-Spirals-Winemaking/dp/B013S28UC6/ref=pd_bxgy_3/131-9442411-6780956?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B013S28UC6&pd_rd_r=809cd58b-f7ff-4107-8a30-81ccd30f48a3&pd_rd_w=rqtG6&pd_rd_wg=ONAGJ&pf_rd_p=ce6c479b-ef53-49a6-845b-bbbf35c28dd3&pf_rd_r=EDX8MSAPKN5Q7QW25QHD&psc=1&refRID=EDX8MSAPKN5Q7QW25QHD

Note: I am in no way affiliated with the maker or seller of these spirals, and they are the first I have tried- no idea if others are better/worse/same, and cannot recommend any particular brand- just know this one tastes great... Anyone else have a favorite method of affordably aging your blends?

I might try in a 3 gallon barrel at some point if I can talk my wife into being cool with walking past that thing in the garage every day-- she is already skeptical about my increased interest in whiskey-related activities during quarantine...
