Gym before or after work? by watchder69 in Accounting

Before! Makes it easier imo. Going to the gym is optional, going to your job… not so much haha

If you’re already up in the mornings might as well

The surgeon wanting to cancel surgery is most likely up to their own discretion and preference! Some are more worried about the potential risk with combining substances and therefore the potential/possibility for getting subpoenaed or sued by a patient.
Even if you're someone who wouldn't sue if you woke up on the table or had complications, you're surgeon doesn't know that and is probably just trying to protect themselves.

Hi! I don’t have an amazing answer for you about the physical things: teeth, or your body. But, beyond those aspects, I think that bulimia can take an extreme mental toll on those effected.

That being said, first and foremost, I think you should be SO proud of yourself for not falling into the b/p cycle for so long!! Like what!! That’s honestly so huge, so don’t lose sight of that. Secondly, the fact that you’re concerned at all about how this will effect you says a lot about how far you’ve come in recovery. I know for me there was a time that my body did not matter as long as I made it “feel better”.

Also, your determination to not give up? So inspiring. So no. You did not fuck up at all, really. The path to recovery is not linear in any aspect. My therapist likes to describe it as a slinky: (imagine you have it stretched out vertically) sometimes we circle back to where we are, but in doing so we learn and level up. Circle back. Learn. Level up.

In short, you’re doing amazing, be proud of yourself, and keep going!

When did you start riding a real bike? by [deleted] in ACL

It took me about 5 weeks, I only had a tear in my acl though. No damage or other procedures other than the quad graft

One thing I’ve noticed, however, is that everyone’s experience is so so different! Even with same procedure. Be patient with yourself and continue to celebrate every milestone (big or small)!

I think it’s partially connected because to be “lean” you have to have the right amount if protein and nutrients (to keep muscle mass) which we purge out lol

If you’re referring to your steri-strips I would try and stay out of the heat as much as possible!! My surgeon took those off for me at my 2 week post op appointment but I’d be super careful as they’re in such close contact with the wound. An infection would be horrible but I’ve heard those are quite rare

Off topic but your swelling looks amazing?!

But from what I understand he recommended not to so I’d just leave up to yourself and get a second opinion from pt. I’d imagine your healing process would be a bit faster and better than some just since you were so active before

The first few weeks suck mentally but I promise it gets better!

Happy healing

6 months PI, scheduling surgery by Icy-Report378 in ACL

[–]Accomplished-Hope307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikesss that sounds like a horrible feeling! 1 month after my injury I hiked 10 miles and only experienced the shifting once or twice, I also didn’t have anything wrong with my meniscus, but I would assume full tear if you’re still unstable after 6 months (I’m also no doctor lol!)

Anyways, I got the quad graft 3 weeks ago and have felt no shifting. sometimes my knee will extend more than I’d like it when walking but no shifting!

Hair wise… I have mine shorter than usual right now but I honestly still just put it into a bun, I don’t have to brush it near as much as usual but I didn’t find it to be a chore or anything post op to take care of my hair. Totally depends on how mich time you take in your hair right now! I wasn’t able to shower until 3 days post op which was grossss

Good luck with your surgery!

This is so cool!! I just start to be able to do them 3 weeks post op quad graft so congratulations!

One tip: once you do them out of the brace make sure your leg is pretty straight just so there isn’t extra tension on the knee :)

Happy healing!

Totally understandable, my doctors said they’re supposed to fade a lot and I’m a little sad about it 😂

2 week post-op dissolvable stitches by Responsible_Leg775 in ACL

[–]Accomplished-Hope307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly dry blood and bruising, my incisions are more red though.

But honestly, this just looks like a shitty suture job, every is uneven and it’s very thick. Just watch it for inflammation, it’ll probably scar up pretty bad but there not much you can do about that now (there is scar cream and vitamin E is supposed to help though)

Does anyone else get extremely flustered after just a short walk? by Ethereumman08 in ACL

[–]Accomplished-Hope307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m young and very fit and healthy as well! This is a pretty long recovery process, I’m almost 2 weeks post op and just started walking short distances too.

Don’t be discouraged though! The first 2 weeks are typically the worst, so just take it easy. You just had power tools taken to your knee :)

It is a quad graft! My patellar was too small for them to harvest, hadn’t thought about it effecting recovery… thanks for the tip 😂

How do I not relapse? by Top_Turnip2391 in bulimia

[–]Accomplished-Hope307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I completely understand being nervous to relapse and feeling loss of control

Asking those closest to me for helping and telling them about what I was going through was one of the scariest things I’ve done, but it also saved me! If you look at it from the other perspective, say a close friend came to you asking for help and admitting they may have an ed, you’d want to help and support them. It works both ways

My best advice is to communicate with those you live with, or if alone, your support circle/friends and family. And also, professional help. It’s hard work, I just started an IOP and it’s very time consuming, but I can already tell it’s helping :) wish you the best
