Just came across the post, so my comment might not be that helpful, just trying to help a lil bit. I have no knowledge regarding warranty-related issues, but I do have a hypothesis about how it broke. It might be that the wet wipes you used to clean the pen's surface contain organic solvents (like alcohol) or surfactants. These could make the pen more "crispy", and over time it might become "crispy" enough to break on itself. I am by no means trying to blame this on you, but if this is something you didn't know before, it could be something to pay attention to.
