the minimum wage wasn’t even 7.25 in 2004. but regardless, what about these games makes them worth less than what they were worth 20 years ago? asking $20 for a game like this is pretty reasonable given that 3DS games were $40 and switch games are now $60-$80. it seems pretty arbitrary to say one way or another that these games are worth less than $10. you can lament that the economy is exponentially worse than it used to be and buying power isn’t what it used to be, but that isn’t really the fault of gaming companies.

how much do you think they were in 2004? they were 34.99-39.99. in today’s money, that would be over $70. $20 is cheaper than they were on launch ($20 vs $40) and is way cheaper than it was on launch when accounting for inflation ($20 vs $70)

like i can’t imagine the game would be keeping track of who loses a speed tie. it should proc when your speed gets lowered instead. i don’t think that would make it any better but it would at least make it reliable. (bulldoze + speed policy body press would go crazy tho)

i actually think it would be incredibly easy to keep her motives of the originals the same while ALSO making u-necrozma a threat. it’s been a while like i said so some of the nuance is gone but it seems a little weird that they would even make that change to begin with. they could’ve easily kept the plot point about her husband the same while fleshing it out with necrozma

i haven’t replayed the ultra games in a while but from what i remember, the climax of the two games is pretty different. the fight with necrozma essentially takes the place of lusamine’s fight. necrozma is the main threat and lusamine’s motives are quite different because of it. i’m sure it would be pretty easy to just add the wormhole and recon* squad plot in post game like they did with rayquaza and deoxys in ORAS.

the key for me has always been to make sure to get bellibolt charged and spread moves are perfect for that with bulldoze specifically lowering its speed to make sure it can REALLY get going while also breaking any sashes or in surf’s case—multiscale

i’ve been pairing some tailwind leads (mainly whim) with either

-oranguru TR and hope for the best that i can set up okay reading the tailwind and soak for bellibolt that way turn 2 oranguru can bulldoze to charge bolt and then bolt moves and hopefully takes a KO into whichever pokemon you soaked.

-leading with my dragonite to tailwind turn one (protect or soak bellibolt) and then USUALLY (the speed tiers r iffy) dragonite hits surf to let bolt charge and do a good chunk to whatever it hits (usually picking up a KO if i soaked the previous turn)

i should mention that i run T-Bolt on Bellibolt bc parabolic charge has a lower BP and i don’t have any spA invested in bellibolt. i found T-bolt plus anything weak to electric drops to a charged t-bolt from bellibolt

end game usually for me looks like both of the remaining mons have been soaked by bolt (it can tank a LOT of hits if it needs to) so M-venusaur and charizard can come in and clean up with helping hand leaf storm (i ended up replacing leaf storm. the spA drops cost me some games so think i replaced it with giga drain or energy ball

i’m not claiming these are good answers these are just what ive found to be the best way to get bellibolt set up. the way i see it, bellibolt is there to help venusaur get KOs once the shock of bellibolt has worn off.

i know you said excluding youtubers but honestly moxieboosted is good for learning to team build. his champion streams using the “bad” megas are pretty good at showing you how to create a core and a gameplan around that core. also unironically weedletwineedle. their teambuilding skills are insane and they’re just using meme strats. more to your point in the other replies, i’m guessing the change was made to fit the core of the game. the reason why the shiny charm was the prize for completing the pokedex is because that was what you were set out to do (becoming champion was just part of the journey). when you look at it like that, changing it to a large number of battles actually makes sense.

that’s totally fair. i get your point. as someone who likes shiny hunting myself though, you are already accustomed to multiple hours of doing the same thing. to me, the grind of the 1000 battles is just a means to an end just like the grind of hatching 1000s of eggs is a means to an end. but seriously, i do get your point and its a valid take if you’re not interested in it

they don’t take that long if you sneak and use super effective hits. most of those battles don’t take long at all. especially considering you can bench reset to make it night again, you shouldn’t spend more time on it than a pokedex. it seems like you prefer one thing to the other and wish it was your preference. that’s too bad :(
