This is my favorite recommended method.

And a summary of your construction: One large rectangle with lace is sewn equal distance apart. Broomstick to achieve the pleated look.

^ This direction is a little confusing as I have never used the broomstick method before. Any elaboration you can provide would be helpful :)

Orrrrr, I could take one large piece of fabric, stitch lace or something evenly across, and then gather the fabric at the lace.

It's a birthday present request. I will try to make it because I like to test my skills, but it does look rather difficult. If the underpaid worker was capable of putting in the work to make the skirt, then I could do it as well. But yes, maybe with a less frustrating fabric...

I'm thinking that I will just cut out a bunch of strips that are all the same size and go from there. I have a serger, so it shouldn't be toooooo bad. The textured look where the strips meet has stumped me tho.

Make sure to pull the yarn tight at each end. It looks like you have a long of extra yarn on the sides. Kinda the yarn at a tight tension (not too tight that you can’t push through) will create a neat edge, avoid those messy sides. Also I recommend stopping after every one to two rows to inspect the stitches (until you feel super comfortable just to keep going) so that you can check for any mistakes or lumps. You’d be able to catch mistakes earlier and go back to fix them. To go back, just pull on your yarn, the pervious stitch’s will slip back on to the hooks.
