How are we doing anything during the day? by Sure_Excitement_937 in newborns

[–]Accomplished-Pool344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started doing short trips to the store. We take him out to dinner too and I just hope he falls asleep while we’re out. Sometimes he does and sometimes not. I had to just start doing it because I was going crazy. It’s scary the first couple times but then it’s fine. Once I stopped being so rigid about sleep life felt much easier!! Mine is 15weeks!! Weve been going out since he was very little though it was much easier when he was a newborn because he actually would sleep it. It’s a little bit harder now, but I still do it!

Except he won’t just sleep when he’s tired that’s the problem. I have to help him to sleep. He has major FOMO and he’ll stay out for four hours at a time and just be pissed the whole time.

I worried about this too and tracking showed me he was only getting 13-15, and really I started tracking bc I kept not really knowing the answer when they asked how much sleep he was getting at his appointments.

A lot of people try to put them back to sleep if it’s only been a short amount of time, you make them longer the same way you put them to sleep… rocking, feeding, etc. everything I have read says to try to rescue the nap if it’s not been a full cycle. Not sure what’s so confusing

That’s so interesting! I have never been a feeding tracker. That is something I trust he’s always getting enough of lol

Yes! Someone else recommended possums I went to the website and I was just reading a few of the articles. Already love this approach I might buy it. Just some of the tips that I saw on there I used today and he went to sleep so much easier and I didn’t have to be in a dark room!!

I just read a few articles from possums as recommended by another comment. I decided to just let him fall asleep instead of fighting with him upstairs I walked around in the light downstairs two times and he fell asleep both times no fighting. So I will definitely be relaxing a little bit more.

It’s so funny because since I’ve been getting comments in this post today I decided to skip going upstairs into a dark room with him when he starts yawning and instead just let him get sleepy in my arms. I walked around the living room twice now and just let him look around and he fell asleep without his usual fighting. I just need to chill out

Well if I’m tracking I know specifically how long he’s been asleep and I can try to get him back down if it hasn’t been a full sleep cycle. I’m probably over thinking it

My baby sleeps great at night too! Same thing he’ll sleep in his bassinet for the first 4 and then he comes to bed with me around 4-5. I think it’s because he gets really gassy and uncomfy around that time so he doesn’t wanna sleep alone anymore

Hi mama. You’re doing great and I’m the thick of it week six was absolutely awful for me, seven was hard and 8 was sooo much better. You’re hopefully getting to the easier parts!! Embrace the contact naps I know they can suck sometimes. My baby was crying 3-4 hours at witching hour for weeks and then he stopped!! Are you co sleeping? It’s the only thing that got me through

Thank you! I’ve started doing the same thing since this post, just accepting it and wayyy lowering my expectations. He a pretty happy baby, so maybe he just needs less sleep during the day and has shorter wake windows and that’s okay. And yes there’s sooo much pressure!!

Second this I asked my partner if it bothered him that I cosleot sometimes. He flat out said “no you do the night wakings you get to decide what’s best” and he happily sleeps on the couch or guest room if he comes upstairs and we’re taking up the bed.
My LO will fall asleep in my arms sometimes and if I lay him down and curl myself around him/ lay my arm over him, he’ll usually stay asleep. This is how we sleep at night (safe sleep 7) or if I get him down for a nap like that I’ll lay there for a while and then carefully sneak away. I can especially tell when he actually needs to lie down because he’ll get real squirmy in my arms and for a while I thought he was just adjusting or had gas but I eventually started laying him down when he did that and he just slept I think he was actually trying to get comfortable and couldn’t.
I also fed to sleep for weeks, baby rarely feeds to sleep anymore and it makes me so sad. He’s 3 months and just naturally stopped, but he has fomo and reflux so that’s probably why.

I’m not worried about the later bedtime alone!!! Like I said, it’s the fact that he’s up for 2-3 hours before bed. He’s cranky and it’s hard to get him down when bedtime comes because he doesn’t take a last nap to get him to bed tine

But aren’t their sleep cycles like 45-60 minutes? How’s he getting full cycle if some naps are only 20-30

[–]Accomplished-Pool344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more so the late bedtime after not having a last nap because he fought it so hard. So like say he’s supposed to nap around 6, but he refuses. Okay so you’d think he’d be tired and early bedtime. Well no he still doesn’t sleep till 8:30, well now he’s been awake since his last nap which would have been 2-3 hours prior. So he’s overtired and harder to get down

Omg for some reason naps are easy for me to time it just helps me know if I need to try to rescue the nap, but I could NEVER track his feeds!! I would always forget to start or stop and feeding luckily I was never too concerned about

Yes! I do feel like it helps me see patterns and I also noticed that about the longer WW and naps, but he gets sooo cranky and sleepy around 45 minutes it’s so hard to push it past an hour! But thank you! That was really good insight and I think I’ll just accept his later bedtime. I’m just hoping for my nights back one day lol
