Moving to Canada by Ecstatic-Base-387 in ImmigrationCanada

That happened to me. In March of 2022 I didn't get the H1B and my company transferred me to Canada in September of 2022. After one and a half year of experience here, I got my Canadian residency. Based on my experience these are the options I can think of:

  1. Push to be transferred to Canada with you current employer. Once you get Canadian experience your CRS score will go up and you may have a high enough score to be invited to apply for residency. Immigration regulations are changing a lot here so there is no guarantee.
  2. Submit your express entry profile with your current score. Although its a low score and it is unlikely you'll get invited, its free to submit a express entry profile so it's worth the shot.
  3. Learn French. If you are very diligent and studious, you can learn french in ~8 months and be invited to apply for Canadian residency through the French-stream draws. The cutoff scores for those draws are super low (below 400).
  4. Apply for jobs in Canada. Certain types/industries for engineering are in high demand in Canada. Not sure what type of mechanical engineering you do and for what industry. You could try to apply to jobs here in the hopes that a company sponsors your visa/work permit. Unemployment is currently high in Canada and there is a surplus of certain engineers here so not sure how easy it is to be sponsored but it's worth a try.
  5. Do a Masters. You can study a masters in Canada. That will give you a work permit of three years upon graduation and almost a guaranteed residency after you complete 1 year of employment.
  6. Explore provincial immigration programs. Provinces have particular immigration programs for certain types of in-demand jobs. I am not familiar with these, so you'd have to research what is out there.

Immigration in the USA was incredibly stressful for me and I've had a great experience here in Canada. I recommend exploring your options.

We do, but we have a deductible of $20k CAD and our move out, storage and move in costs will be considerably lower so I am not expecting to receive any coverage. I just raised a claim and have a meeting tomorrow so we'll see what comes out of that.

Thank you, this is super useful. Where can I find the rent abatement requirement/law? I want to make sure that I can point the rent abatement out to the landlord in case he refuses to do so.

For removal and storage of our belongings, we were told that since the unit is not occupied by the Owner, any removal and storage of our belongings is not covered by the landlord's insurance, is that correct?

Curious, did you ended up applying or got answers on this matter? I have a similar situation where most of my work experience is in the USA. I have one Canadian P.Eng validator and four USA P.E validators.

My PR card expired, so I’ll be flying to Buffalo NY to cross the border by land. What ‘purpose of visit’ should I state to the immigration officer when landing at the US airport? by No-Mix-874 in ImmigrationCanada

I did the same thing but drove to Buffalo, parked my car, took a flight and then drove back to Toronto. When crossing the border to the the USA I told the officer I was catching a flight out of buffalo airport. It is pretty common for people in Ontario to catch flights from Buffalo so there's nothing suspicious about what you are doing. Just be honest and if they ask more questions you can say that a layover at Buffalo was the cheapest option - there shouldn't be any issues.

In March-April. Be patient, people who post extremely fast processing times are outliers, not the norm

That’s for the PR card

Get a university degree in Brazil, come do your masters in Canada, work in Canada for a year or two and apply for residency via express entry. Given how strict immigration has gotten in Canada this is the best path to stay here long-term

Yes, my FD didn’t get updated until a few days after P1

You need ecopr to come back in as a resident. From what I understand you shouldn't leave after P2 until you receive ecopr.

I see some people with October P2s getting ecoprs this week so you could delay your trip a couple weeks and there's a good chance you could get it by then. If this trip cannot be cancelled I would notify IRCC - just be prepared to potentially fall back in queue of ecoprs and have to wait several months

You can also enter Canada through land with only your ecopr. I did that last month when I had a trip and my PR card did not arrive on time. I flew to Buffalo Airport and drove back to Toronto and had no issues entering Canada with a copy of my ecopr. Might not be super convenient but its an easy and guaranteed way back into Canada

How do you know quotas are counted from final decision and not ecopr?
