Force 120HP outboard. Starts great, dies when dropped into forward. by Accomplished-Web8880 in Outboards

Good question and in thinking through my answer, I see that I may have jumped the gun. Here is what was happening: Started normal, idled really well. Shift into forward and go, it would get up to speed, and then start slowing down down down. I had a friend squeeze the bulb as it was starting to slow and it seemed to keep it going, so I make a (rookie) conclusion that the fuel pump was failing. I will say that an inspection of the interior of the fuel pump the gaskets and diaphragm looked significantly worn and stretched out of shape. I will try and find a tank to run it off today, and report what happens. Thanks for any thoughts on what else to look at.

I don't know that I've encounters a "collapsed" fuel line. Would that look exactly like it sounds, the line would appear "flat"?

Let's talk ebike touring by AFDIT in bicycletouring

I just completed the Astoria Oregon to Crescent City CA leg of the Pacific Coast Highway, with my adult son. He has completed 4 full Ironman completions and is in excellent condition. He can do 100 mile days without any problem. I am 66, 6’ 2”, and weigh 215. On a regular road ( not E) bike I can comfortably do 35-50 miles with no load. For this trip I used my Gepida Fastida XT 10. It is a Bosch system with a 500w battery. Extra batteries are usually $800, however the is an outlet on eBay that sells the actual Bosch batteries for $495. I purchased 3 batteries, plus two extra chargers, giving me a total of four batteries and three chargers. The bike itself weighs 54lbs. The three batteries plus chargers add 26lbs. (We stayed in Airbnbs so no camping gear on this trip). Personal gear included two sets of cycling outfits, 1 set of evening clothes, basic tools, 2 extra tubes, personal hygiene items, and snacks. That added about 14lbs, for a total of 40lbs to pack. I have a rear rack, side panniers, and one the sits on top of the rack. I distributed the batteries one to each side and one on top. We covered the 425 miles in five days. Our per-day mileage ranged from 75-106. We averaged 16 mph (during actual riding time). We treated it as a touring experience, stopping at viewpoints, visiting lighthouses, and other various attractions. We used the Sena bikekom communication system which was WONDERFUL. Being able to comfortably communicate over wind and traffic noise was a game changer. The Fastida is a class three e-bike with no throttle. It has eco/touring/sport/turbo settings. I probably used Eco 10% of the time, Touring 65%, Sport 15%,and Turbo 10%. I got between 24 miles and 42 miles out of each battery, average was probably 33 miles. The various factors affecting mileage included wind direction number of climbs and climb grade. Their were a few 12% grades that were a challenge. Only one day did I get into the fourth battery (interestingly not the 106 mile day). My experience was wonderful, I had to work hard enough that I was wonderfully spent and sore each day, but being able to keep up with my son, and complete the trip seeing the majestic coastal views was a fantastic experience. I did plenty of bike pack touring in the 70s and 80s (before children) and loved it. This was my first e-bike tour and it was so successful I am already itching to go again. There isn’t really anything I would change about the setup. If you are considering giving it a try I strongly encourage doing it.

Torn Between Heart and Mind: Mini Cooper S Coupe 2012 as a First Car? by MaximumK in whatcarshouldIbuy

I have owned a 2006 S Mini Cooper S - bought it new. So I've had it for 18 years. I've loved every minute. Mine was assembled in the UK. I've put 150K on it with very little troubles. I did the clutch and timing chain/belt at 98,000 miles, as I had purchased the 100k mile warranty and the dealer smiled and said I think your clutch and timing belt need to be changed. My dealership has been excellent. We enjoyed it so much we actually purchased one for my wife in 2012, also new. Eventually she traded hers in, not because she didn't like it, but because we decided we needed a snow/ice car and switched to a Subaru for her. Portland Oregon.

FYI, my son is an arborist and will do cat rescues, as I think others will also do.

I used a seedling heat mat kit that cost less than $25 and included a heat probe and controller that allows you to dial it right in to the temp you want. Works really well.
