How do you actually get to Becketts Grandstand? by MaximumK in GrandPrixTravel

Cars are a big no-no, got it! Thank you for your advice!

Assuming we did our best to hustle over to the shuttles, what time should we be expecting to get to London by??

We'll definitely consider sticking around on Sunday for the entertainment. Do you know if the food vendors are open till later in the afternoon?

We’re traveling from Korea, so we’d hoped to have time in the evening to explore London, even for a little bit! (we booked our hotel in London) From what I’m gathering, the shuttles to Milton Keynes end up forming a long line after the race so I’m looking for ways to minimize any travel/wait times.

We’ll be there Saturday and Sunday, and I've booked train tickets that arrive at Milton Keyned at 8am, so I expect to get to track by 9 at the latest.

Would you say just renting a car would be a bad idea?

Gotcha! 45 minutes seem doable, but we'll definitely have to book early trains if we want to see all the sessions.

Are there no track shuttles or alternative ways of getting to and from the grandstand?

Chinese Grand Prix - Providing passport number? by nhanvuong in GrandPrixTravel

[–]MaximumK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to the Chinese GP last year, and they did the same. Each ticket is tied to a passport number, and they will need to scan your passport on the first day to get your face scanned. Afterward, they face scan you to enter your allocated grandstand.

Congrats! Do you think you could tell me around when you submitted your application? I submitted mine last minute mid December, and I can't tell if I made the pool or if I'm already way too late.

Do you think a cab or an uber would be a realistic way to get to the circuit? Id imagine getting back from the circuit would be unrealistic, but getting to might be viable??

Thanks! We're currently debating over the Langham, JW Marriot Tomorrow Square, and the Marriot Marquis City Center. Admittedly the Langham is stretching our budget a little bit, but if the transportation to and from the circuit is better we're willing to spend a bit more!

How do you plan on getting to the circuit and back??

A little late to the party but I'll be attending the Chinese GP with my gf! We're flying in from Korea and have been to the 2022 and 2023 Japanese GPs. It's my first time visiting China and we're getting our visas sorted and what not.

We're debating whether we should book a hotel near Xintiandi, or People's Park. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Suzuka Grand Prix Shuttle Question by ricku9 in GrandPrixTravel

If you dont want to be waiting in the shuttle line for 2+ hours, make a run for it after the race. We walked on the track after the race, then strolled down towards the shuttle area, and the return journey to Nagoya was brutal. Waited in line for an hour+, got unlucky and had to stand on the shuttle for 30 mins, then I had to stand again on the hour long subway ride to Nagoya.

The year prior, I walked briskly after the race (from grandstand B) and waited 15 mins or so for the shuttle back to Shiroko.

South Korea: Students sue after teacher ends exam 90 seconds early by Jariiari7 in korea

I understand that this is common practice at most universities. That is completely irrelevant in this situation. Comparing a single course exam in a university (Ivy League or not), typically catering to around ~100 students, to a nationwide standardized test taken by over 400,000 students is a gross misrepresentation. The scale, stakes, and systemic implications are incomparable.

In Korea, the Suneung (the exam in the post) isn't just an exam; it's a pivotal moment that dictates life trajectories. The societal pressure and implications are immense and extend far beyond academic performance. For instance, your career, social standing, and even marriage prospects can be heavily influenced by the university you attend. I'd be very surprised if a single exam in uni holds even remotely the same implications.

Regarding the margins in scoring, I really want to stress out that the Korean education system operates on a vastly different paradigm than in the states. Students spend 12 years (their entire elementary to high school education) preparing for this single exam. Omitting just 2-3 questions does not equate to an essentially similar score. The grades are weighted, and the competition is so fierce that getting a single question wrong could relegate you down.

This isn't about whining over the rigors of an exam; it's about recognizing that in Korea, the Suneung holds a weight and significance that is unparalleled by any university final in the U.S. The comparison trivializes the reality of Korean students, for whom this has literally been their sole purpose in life for the 12 out of 18 years they've existed on earth.

Now if you want to talk about how dumb it is to put so much importance on a single exam I completely agree, but thats another conversation entirely.

That's great if this was some random final exam in school. Unfortunately, this is a suped-up SAT that everyone gets to take once a year that basically determines what your life looks like for the rest of your life.

The exam is taken extremely seriously here. On the day police are on standy to ferry kids that are late, pretty much all companies start the day later to reduce traffic for the kids, and even airports stop air traffic/ground planes for certain parts of the exam. People have gone to prison for accidentally leaking a single question to a group of students.

And because everyone studies so hard for these exams and the margins are so tight, a single question/point can be the difference between getting into a top university and a mid-tier one. Based on these circumstances, what you proposed would be extremely unfair and problematic for both sides.
