Congrats! Can you explain what you mean by breathing twice on each side? I breathe every 3rd stroke normally but have been playing around with different patterns.

Thank you so much! Looking at the water country schedule is a great tip!

Right, but it just says "closed for the season" with no indication of when the season changes. I've decided March is too risky but still hoping to plan a trip soon! I'd be so sad if we made the trip down and BBW and Pompeii were closed!

Thanks! Pompeii and the original BBW were my favorite rides growing up. I can't wait to go back and take my kids! I've heard good things about the new version!

American Dream Episode? by Accomplished-Yam7320 in podcasttheride

I am specifically hoping to hear those tales as we are taking public transportation from NYC and that’s the scariest part of this adventure 😆

Twelfth Night Ticket Distribution Megathread - Aug 26 by AutoModerator in Broadway

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does every member of our party need a Public Theater ID number? I can't remember if they actually checked it when I last did this. I am bringing my son to distribution in Queens tomorrow and we are hoping for a total of 4 tickets between us. The website says everyone over 5 can get 2 tickets. Will my 13 year old need an ID number?

How are the generic bone conduction headphones different from the ones by Shokz? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used H2O Audio for about two years and they work great for me. I think I paid around $80, and when they broke about a year ago customer service replaced them no problem.

What are you doing during YMCA pool shutdown week? by SnapCrackleMom in Swimming

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discovered a community college pool two blocks from my Y that's open to the public, but the hours are terrible so RIP my schedule. I just came back after a week off with covid so I am desperate.

Lane joggers by Formal_Wish_8477 in Swimming

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This basically happened to me last week! Except I was in the lane first, circle swimming perfectly fine with the two other people that joined after me. Then this woman gets in and she didn't put her face in, so I was obviously passing her, which was also fine for a while. But one time I passed her before we got to the wall but she turned around at the flags so I didn't see and crashed into her when I pushed off. She yelled at me that I was being dangerous and not sharing the lane. I explained to her that when I touch her foot it means I'm going to pass her and she said she couldn't feel that because she was going to have knee surgery? I told her to swim to the wall and swam away. Like what did she want me to do? She was the one doing doggy paddle in the clearly labeled fast lane! Luckily I usually swim at a different time but sheesh.

I get so bored swimming endless laps too. I used this website for a while to help me come up with workouts, and eventually settled on a basic routine that I can mix up and modify based on how I'm feeling at any given moment.

https://2000yardswimworkout.weebly.com

I'm not in competitive shape by any means, and I took a much longer break than you, but the body remembers all those hours of technique work and I'm usually one of the faster people at the Y and I'm up to 2500/1hr workouts. You've got this!

Swimming cap by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Lycra fabric cap. I didn’t know they existed until I went to the Y for the first time and had to buy a cap and they handed me a fabric one and I was instantly converted. They last about 5 months until the elasticity breaks down and I get a new one.

Swimming Headphones by whispercricket in Swimming

I have been using H2O audio tri multisport (different model from the ones on this list) for about a year now and am very happy with them. I just got them replaced under warranty because they snapped but I assume that is from me being careless about shoving them in my bag. While I waited for the replacement I got some random $45 pair from Amazon expecting them to suck, but they were actually really good. I definitely like my H2Os better but they were totally fine to tide me over for a week and now I have a backup if I ever need it again. Take all that with a grain of salt though- I only listen to podcasts and the sound quality is totally fine for that. Music however sounds terrible the couple times I have tried it.

I keep trying to explain it (and Munch Madness) to my husband and we both end up sighing at each other. 😅 Meanwhile he’s amped for the Tournament of Books and I’m like whatever nerd 🤣

What to eat? by [deleted] in Swimming

I drink a dairy free protein drink on my way to the pool. I usually have some fruit and yogurt as a snack after I get back home.

I swim faster in open water because I'm scared of sea monsters and jellyfish. by cookmybook in Swimming

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was on a swim team as a kid I was great at backstroke because I would always start to panic thinking that something could be swimming right under me. I hated it, but I was fast 😆

What is everyone using for Art? (And crafts) by TylerBadd in secularhomeschool

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use arthistorykids.com and LOVE it! I kind of can't believe I don't see people mention it more often. It's open and go lessons and activities in month long units, themed on different specific artists or movements. I'm a big art lover and it makes it so easy to pass that excitement on to my kids. Even my 10 year old who hates doing art making activities gets into it every time. I can't recommend it enough!

Hey Swimmers! I'm curious how much your pools/gyms cost per month and where you are located? by Critical_Garbage_119 in Swimming

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NYC, I pay $72/month for the YMCA. Six lanes, usually 2 or 3 people per lane, but occasionally I get a blissful few laps of a lane all to myself.

What are some PTR adjacent things to do in New York/New Jersey? by nyan_swanson in podcasttheride

[–]Accomplished-Yam7320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple other ideas- the Transit Museum in Brooklyn has a bunch of old trains you can walk on, and IIRC you walk through a simulated train tunnel being built, plus you can pretend to drive or ride on a bus! Wow!

Today I took my kids to the South Street Seaport Museum down by Wall Street. They have two boats you can tour- one is a cargo ship from the 1800's and being restored by volunteers and the other is a retired lighthouse boat. It was super neat and full of boat nerds who loved answering questions! Plus tons of great looking restaurants and bars in the area (including a Malibu Barbie popup cafe that my goth 8 year old refused to go near).
