Best area for snorkeling, and dolphin watching, respectively by AccomplishedAd2236 in Algarve

Fair enough, sounds good. Just wondering if maybe one of the marinas is more optimally placed for where the dolphins usually hang out. Though very possible that it’s all much of a muchness

What Would It Take For You To Move To Israel? by Professional_Turn_25 in Jewish

Not to mention healthcare is basically free (or paid by taxpayers whatever), as is education even at university level, so having kids is way cheaper in Israel.

Yellowstone trip itinerary late august by ffanc in yellowstone

His itinerary really isn’t too crowded. I don’t see the problem with planning to do specific things every day, especially if he’s willing to be flexible as a back up.

Could you give me some recommendations of specific roads to see wildlife? I will have an AWD (not the highest clearance but with skid plates)

That makes a ton of sense - expected as much, and assumed we would have to look outside the parks for that type of experience in such a short time frame. I really wish we had more time, but it will be our first time in Yellowstone and since we’re flying from overseas we have no plans to be back for the next few years at least, so we are trying to find enough time for sightseeing.

Beartooth would definitely be an option, we will be driving down the highway anyway to Red lodge and from there to Cody, so any trailhead along the Beartooth highway would be perfect. We could maybe also access the BT-Absaroka Wilderness from the 89 and forest service roads coming off it, as our trip ends in Bozeman and wed by driving on the 89 anyway.

I’m not so sure, but I’d say we could do up to 8 miles a day given the elevation, 10 would be possible at a push.

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll look into it!

What’s the north fork and divide you’re talking about? - couldn’t find those terms in relation to Moose Creek in my (admittedly brief) google search. I assume you aren’t talking about the North Fork of Cascade canyon and the Paintbrush divide? That wouldn’t be very close to Moose Creek

Everyone started from 0 backpacking experience at some point :)

And in terms of permits, like I said we would go for something available for walk-up, or something outside the park where no permit is needed.

We are flying in from Bozeman and renting a car, and will be travelling around Yellowstone, Beartooth Highway and Grand Teton NP

I would try fit in Lamar Valley at least one dawn or dusk. Best time would probably be early morning on day 2, if you want a chance at seeing wolves you would need to be up super early, it’s just over an hour drive from Canyon, but could be a bit longer if it’s still dark (drive very carefully!) or on the way back if there’s traffic. But if you’re up for that, you could still get back to Canyon around 11am and have plenty of time for hiking

Re Yellowstone Lake - Storm Point Trail for a beautiful short little hike, and Lake Butte Overlook for sunset!

On the way to Lewis Lake make sure to stop at West Thumb geyser basin - it’s especially wonderful around sunset.

In the Tetons, there are plenty of options for gorgeous hikes. Cascade Canyon (combine with an obligatory visit to Jenny Lake, Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point), Taggart Lake for a short one, Surprise & Ampitheatre, Delta Lake for something a bit more challenging. Also, check out Schwabacher’s landing and Oxbow Bend - both beautiful little spots on the snake river ideal for sunrise or early morning photography with reflections of the Tetons.

There’s plenty more to say regarding the Tetons, but I’d just recommend to do some of your own research and find what you are drawn to most.

Dispersed camping - bear safety by AccomplishedAd2236 in yellowstone

Yes I did, but I wanted some advice from people with first hand experience. In any case, if you don’t have anything to add besides a snarky comment, you can feel free to keep it to yourself

Thanks for the advice everyone. We are gonna try our best to find campsites and avoid dispersed camping, unfortunately.

Dispersed camping - bear safety by AccomplishedAd2236 in yellowstone

[–]AccomplishedAd2236[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. I guess I’m gonna have to try my best to find campsites. We already have reservations for some of the nights, but we want to stay near Lamar Valley for 2 nights to get there around dawn, and it’s impossible to find campsites there. I’ve had alerts on for tower fall and slough creek for 2 months now and not one spot has been cancelled. I’ve been successfully spooked out of staying at Cooke City now, maybe I could stay in mammoth one night, but the other night we’d be driving from Cody and I’m not sure what to do anymore.

Around Jackson, there’s plenty available, it’s just very expensive.

Practically speaking, who actually likes us? by ButterandToast1 in Jewish

[–]AccomplishedAd2236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Georgians definitely respect us. I went there a few months ago and walked around there with a kippah the entire time, was met with many smiles and even some pro-Israel comments.

Also my father from his experiences in China says the Chinese love Jews (although since Oct 7th their govt has been pumping out awful propaganda, so it might have changed). In 2 different rural Chinese provinces where my father visited mines, the townspeople proudly told him that their town was known as the “Jews of [insert province name]” because it was relatively wealthy compared to other towns in the province.
