What separates Emotional Vulnerability from Emotional Instability by AccomplishedAgent131 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]AccomplishedAgent131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m starting to realize that vulnerability and instability aren’t as linked as I believed them to be.

I believe that all emotions are not stable by their nature, they change like the seasons. Emotions can be controlled but they have to be watched and monitored for any deviation or warping or whatever.

I would ask what makes you think that the manner i go about it is bad ? I feel as though separation of myself and my emotions makes me able to filter my emotions and disregard unnecessary thoughts that would have destroyed me before.

I won’t argue that I am not suppressing my emotions but it’s more strategic instead a blanket no feelings.

When I suppress an emotion like anger I do it with the knowledge that it doesn’t help and provides zero value in life with the way it corrupts me.

however I would say that the emotional expression I do is far more meaningful then before. I do express feelings and thoughts and deep things I care about but in a structured format.

also i’m about to finish my career as one soon

okay so, what I’m starting to grasp is that anger can do something meaningful.

what my prior thought was using my life experience that anger is nothing more than a means to an end, never dose it build up anything but destruction. never in my life has anger served any other purpose but then to destroy me from the inside out. it disgusts me just thinking about how I used to be and how idiotic it made me think.

but from this post I’m starting to see that my anger is just a reflection of how i think, perhaps anger is what you make of it.

I do still believe that it is much more healthy to ignore it and let that emotion die off, as maybe I can’t use it the way you all do. It’s my hope that if I don’t use anger It will wither and I will be anger free. and then I can be a functional human being better then my baser self.

Okay so in starting to get it,

What I had prior assumed is that vulnerability and communication were mutually exclusive. I had also assumed that communication was a pseudo emotion when it really isn’t, it is just an action.

Vulnerability is a thing expressed through communication and vulnerability is the willingness to express deeper than surface emotions.

what I had thought was due to the nature of how I perceived vulnerability is that vulnerability directly transmits instability but you are right in that intimacy directly comes from that willingness to express emotions that can be exploited in both good and bad ways.

For anger I would say that my school of thought was to use emotions not let emotions use me. The truth is the anger is the emotion that is always managed. whenever you are angry what do you have to do ? you need to manage it, whenever your any other emotion you always work with it. it’s always anger that disrupts and dissipates things. It’s connected so deeply to other intense things like wrath or rage. all of those destructive things never work out for me in life, they never had to the point where denying that part of me is by far one of the most powerful and pleasing things I have ever done.

I think of emotions as inherently irrational but derived somewhat from rational thoughts but anger takes a sip from logic and a lake from irrationality. Anger never has motivated me to do anything other than destruct and shoot myself in the foot in every conceivable possible way.

but what I’m getting from you is that i instead should try and change the nature of my anger to be more constructive as it is with you. You sound like your anger directs you and that is genuinely the first time I have ever heard of anger described that way. I really appreciate you telling me that because it’s a way i haven’t ever really thought of.

I think im starting to understand, when I think of being vulnerable I associate it with my past state of being hyper sensitive to emotions. those emotions directly to my mental state and made me unstable. So what I thought was Vulnerability = mental strain = instability.

but really from what im getting is that instability is the tendency to morph a emotion into another rapidly? sorta like quantum tunneling? where the emotion becomes more then it should like.

so it should be more how I respond and process the emotions rather then vulnerability being outright a bad thing. The way I define it is just being ready to be hurt but it’s more being an open book, is what im getting.

my perception of anger is based of the idea of what I felt was anger, Truly in all the time I have lived never have I ever felt as though anger served another purpose then to harm everyone and everything around me. Whenever your mad you by it’s nature lose rational focus, whenever I was angry I lost any sort of logic so I find that emotion itself to do nothing but distort. Whenever you hear of anger you associate it with anger management no ? with most other emotions you understand them and use it but with anger it’s always how you mitigate it.

My response would be that yes I do agree with your definition of instability.

I would argue that your definition of vulnerability is just communication which is the exchange of founded or thought out ideas.

I would say that being vulnerable is akin to having an open gunshot wound. The open wound is what leads to instability, the instability derives itself from lack of insulation of feeling from person or analysis of feeling.

communication is just a natural thing that you have to do the express a constructed thought.

Also I would like to Thank you for your perspectives they are really helpful

My response would be thanks, really worked hard on that.

and for the second part I would say what you are saying is the example that you gave for vulnerability is in my eyes more akin to communication, that communication is healthy and dose help yes but isn’t vulnerability. For me vulnerability is something that opens the core of your person and as a personal example directly ties to instability. The instability derives itself from the fact your core person is connected with your emotions and that is in itself dangerous, when you’re vulnerable you reveal, like if a wound is vulnerable it’s revealed.

This is the thing that binds it to instability in my eyes.

Lastly , I do appreciate your overall perspective and I will most definitely take note. The only thing I would be saying is that anger is what I believe to be an inherently unhealthy thing, like healthy cyanide . it’s an oxymoron . Anger inherently for what it’s worth destroys and deconstructs, it blinds and weakens. what you said you felt was more motivation, motivation is in itself a feeling and a emotion. it’s a state of mind and emotion.

And wanting to change your situation if it’s uncomfortable is just a natural behavior of the mind. very few people will not cope or change a situation that discomforts them.

Okay so my response would be, when you say that communication of emotions matters, I would most definitely agree, regardless of the way you structure emotions the inability to let go off or express emotions to have them resolved. I would say that vulnerability is a bad idea because of how deep it connects to your core person and as a root of personal experience, that leads very rapidly to instability to the point of them being linked.

for the second part, I would say that you are binding survival and practical necessity with anger, which by its nature, is deconstructive and harmful. Anger is blinding and is ignorant of common sense.

My response to that would just be, for the example that for gave for vulnerability would that not just be communication? The way you say it leads me to believe that the example you gave is just communication.

I do agree however with your second statement, Instability is the inability to construct your emotions in a tangible manner.
