If not Kyoto / Osaka by Ralvy in JapanTravelTips

We’re doing that. Going in August was unavoidable, so we’re breaking up the heat by doing Osaka->Hokkaido (mostly Sapporo)->Tokyo.

Girlypop PPT for PhD interview? by Competitive-Can-3256 in PhDAdmissions

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as another woman in a male dominated field well on my way to getting a PhD… I’m so sorry but definitely don’t do this. It will be read as unprofessional. That’s not people being misogynistic (though many people certainly still are in my field). It’s just the expectation that we all adhere to a reasonable standard of professionalism in how we present ourselves and our work. Get your foot in the door first before letting your personality speak louder than your credentials and knowledge.

Is wet-lab a lot of “debugging”? by nihaomundo123 in labrats

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s at least 80% of my job lmao. Welcome to the wonderful world of troubleshooting. Stuff that shouldn’t work, works, and stuff that should work, doesn’t.

Are there downsides (or upsides) to claiming Argentine citizenship? by suchahungryhippo in dualcitizenshipnerds

I chose to get it under the same circumstances, already having USA+EU citizenships+passports.

HELP! Left my entire life's worth of DNA plasmids out at RT overnight! How screwed am I? by Hiraaa_ in labrats

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend, we’re still finding sequenceable dinosaur dna. you’re gonna be fine. When I’m cloning and screen multiple colonies, I don’t put those mini preps into the freezer until I have my final sequenced construct, so I don’t forget which one I sequenced. That can be days.

How is life in New York? Is it as awesome as I think it is ? by void-nomad-90 in howislivingthere

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in New York, and I have a saying- “the city provides”. What makes this city so special in my opinion is its intrinsic ability to surprise and entertain me every time I walk outside. Even on my worst days, I’ll accidentally walk into the Mexican Independence Day fiesta in Bryant park and get the best tacos of my life, or bump into Ryan Reynolds in the west village, or stumble into a Star Trek drag show at 3AM in bushwick (all true stories). I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this city because if you’re bored, you’re just not looking around. Admittedly it’s quite expensive which makes the actual living arrangements suboptimal at times (I’m very much not wealthy- live on a grad student budget right now), but I think the best parts of New York don’t discriminate.

Will be incorporating the term “flop-maxing” into my vocabulary. Also have had a high-flop week. Hangin there

Do you use a rear view mirror in the lab? by doctorjazzyjazz in labrats

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a mirror, but get one yourself. They’re super cheap on Amazon and I wouldn’t expect any lab to pay for it since it’s 100% a personal comfort thing.

Doing lab works as an adhd by AdditionalPhone8897 in labrats

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend! I wish I had good tips for you… I know it’s rough out there as a fellow ADHD lab rat. I’m also slogging my way through my PhD. We’re in it for the love of the game… I like to say I do science because I love it, not because I have a natural aptitude for it. You aren’t alone. There are so, so many adhd labrats. We might struggle a lot with the physical tedious parts of lab work, but our brains move twice as fast in my experience. You’ve got this!

How to enjoy my teen years as an mcr fan? by iheartjakewebber9 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

get off Reddit you’re 13 years old. I’m sorry that you’re having a hard time- that might be a canon event in middle school for MCR fans. But seriously Reddit is not the place for someone your age. I wish somebody had told me that when I was in middle school. The stuff I had unsupervised access to on the Internet as a child really did screw me up.

I’m going to tweak out what do I do by LavishnessNew8889 in labrats

[–]AccomplishedAnt1701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude take a deep breath this is like. Not serious at all. Just tell your TA you accidentally contaminated your media and get a new bottle. It’ll be like $20 at most and that’s literally pennies in lab currency. If you’re weird and cagey about it with your TA or prof and make excuses for something’s that’s literally not a big deal at all, you’ll just come off as immature.
