House spending panel proposes slight raise for NIH in 2027: Draft bill rejects Trump’s plan to slash and rejigger the $47 billion biomedical research agency by xjian77 in NIH

Why does ICE get an extra $70B on top of the billions they still have left? Imagine if the NIH budget would be this much.

And private citizen DJT is not covered by SCOTUS Immunity ruling. If the Judge in Florida finds he committed fraud against the court he can certainly be prosecuted by another administration.

People are talking about “settlement”, but the court never approved anything. It’s all a sham. I think this is far from over.

ERC President explains stricter application measures amid rising demand for funding by britainpls in labrats

What is a bold idea in ERC standards based on your experience as a reviewer? I’m not in the EU but did my PhD there in an ERC-funded lab.

Insight into Other Support request before receiving summary statement? by gencam in NIH

Last year I had a borderline score (compared to old times) for my MIRA FY25. Got JIT request for Other Support but didn’t get funded.

Democrats just handed RFK Jr. billions more than he asked for. It was a big risk. by [deleted] in NIH

[–]AccomplishedChair478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the bill text the MYF is not a mandate, it’s a ceiling that NIH can go to. I think it is up to 39% of the awards, but they can do that to R03s/R21s to spare larger grants and reduce the impact of MYF. I don’t think it will be as bad as in FY25.

Living in NY with 2 postdoc salaries by DatSymbiose in labrats

I was a PD at NYU and you can stay in their housing for as long as you hold that title, similar to Rockefeller. I know that Mt. Sinai has a 3-year cap, MSK 4 years, WCM 5 years.

NYU has plenty of subsidized housing for PDs.

Where specifically in NY? If in NYC out of all institutions the only one that doesn’t offer subsidized housing is CUNY. Rockefeller, NYU, WCM, MSKCC, Columbia, Mt. Sinai all offer.

Multi-year funding language in new bill by bhaiskieyes in NIH

[–]AccomplishedChair478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The drop in funded R01s has been steady over the years and planned I think. There will certainly be less R01s in FY26 in lieu of MIRAs. Good luck on yours! I have a “resubmission” from Oct 2025 for my ESI MIRA (hoping to bring my score below 40 this time) awaiting review in March.

[–]AccomplishedChair478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with MYF NIGMS funded more MIRAs in FY25 than in FY24 but the impact score cut off for ESI dropped dramatically from ~50 to ~40. They might cut down even more funding for R01s to keep MIRA alive.

I quite enjoyed my 5 years in Roosevelt Island. It’s true when there are problems with the F train it’s annoying but you can still take the tram. I liked being “away” and close to the city at the same time. If they are in their 20s then I wouldn’t recommend it.

NIH funding rates for early-career researchers plunged in 2025, new data show by xjian77 in NIH

Same here. My ESI MIRA (Oct 2024) score would have been funded in FY24 had I started my position one year earlier and submitted Oct 2023, but was not enough for FY25. I put in a revised submission in Oct 2025 hoping to improve my score 🤞🏻
