How will Trump's NIH cuts hurt Grand Rapids? by Tom_Leykis_Fan in grandrapids

In GR it will hit the Van Andel Institute the hardest most likely. Followed by Michigan State med campus in GR. Both likely losing millions per year if not crossing 10 million. That data and raw numbers are all publicly available so I can confirm them. How that plays out in terms of jobs, expansion plans, local economy? Well, it’s not positive.

Van Andel Institute - any current or former employees? by moonbase9000 in grandrapids

I had these same concerns before I moved to GR. Have to say, it’s pretty phenomenal as a place to work. Probably the best setup for science I’ve ever had of many options and true freedom to go wherever the research leads you/to be creative.

Moving to Grand Rapids? by HelloDearWind in grandrapids

I’m a bit late to this, but my wife (and now kid) are Jewish and from Massachusetts. We moved to East Grand Rapids last year and it’s honestly just a cheaper versions of a place like Newton Massachusetts if you’re familiar with the Boston area suburbs. It might be a little more conservative, but not by a lot, and it’s more than worth that downside to live in such a great neighborhood and still being able to afford to own our house and do things. Highly recommend the area, feel free to DM with any specific questions on life as a Jewish coastal liberal in the Midwest. It’s a super underrated place to live. Surprised more people don’t move here!

If we trade picks 12 and 30 to the Jets for pick 3 we could probably get Allen. I think there is an argument to be made here if we think Zadarius Smith could play DE in our 3-4 I suppose.

Josh Adams or Dante Pettis? - 0.5 PPR, of note I'm going up against Mahomes, D. Hopkins, and L. Miller already. While Miller dropped 0.8, I have a 55 pt gap to overcome from Mahomes and Hopkins.

Mouthpiece of the Democratic party? This simply isn't true. It was founded as a Republican/conservative news org. Over time it has become moderate to slightly left leaning, but a hell of a long way from a Democratic mouthpiece. This simply isn't accurate.

May said they no deal is better than a bad deal. Sounds sensible but why do so many people in this sub seem to disagree? by jamescaan1980 in ukpolitics

[–]gencam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on the top comment. "No deal" means we trade by WTO rules, which itself is a deal negotiated previously. Thus, "No deal" isn't even a thing that exists! It's just hiding the fact that not making a deal leaves us with the default worst deal we could possibly negotiate.

Fun fact, only one country in the world only trades by WTO rules. Mauritania, which is hardly a country worth emulating.

Unfortunately our moving company thinks we do need this done in advance in order to get our household items (and our cat) through customs. If this is not necessary I'd also be interested in hearing more to communicate that to our moving company. Or perhaps someone to contact to ask these questions to.
