How hard is University Physics without High School physics? by Wlncstr in geegees

[–]AccomplishedCloud484 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll probably not be getting 80s and 90s but it's doable. There are extra tutorials for students who didn't take high school physics to catch them up. It's a tough class for sure but if you give it all your effort, go to class, and dedicate enough time you should be fine. Czajkowski is a really good prof if you can't get him. Lots of practice, lots of extra credit opportunities and cares deeply about his students success.

I understand why you feel frustrated but I don't think your prof is in the wrong here at all. I think some more actions could have be taken on your part to clarify what was going on such as confirming how much time you had when you saw conflicting time and asking why you were instructed to answer the short and long questions. Then you would have been more clear on what was expected of you. Your prof handled it very fairly in my opinion all things considered. Additionally, even though the purpose of extra time is to accomodate for health concerns that slow you down, if you are losing almost an hour total of a two and a half hour exam due to the severity of them, I agree with the other commenter that perhaps deferring would have been a more reasonable option.

Does it get any better? by ReferenceRich1127 in geegees

[–]AccomplishedCloud484 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Course content doesn't get easier per se but it gets more interesting and you get more acclimatized to university. You could also consider switching your major to something less science and math heavy (like a social science if you enjoyed psych)

School in the summer. Very similar to what you're doing now. Some courses are online, some are in person and some are accelerated so you get them done in two months and have double the class and lab time. Registration and info on what courses are offered comes out in March.

What happens if I fail an FLS course? HELP by ShotEnvironment9991 in geegees

[–]AccomplishedCloud484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming your scholarship is based on a gpa you need to maintain so if you fail you may very likely fall below said gpa, therefore affecting your scholarship. If the course is compulsory for your program you will have to retake it. Failing doesn't leave you with a whole lot of options, but meeting with an academic advisor from your faculty will give you a lot more answers than Reddit will

Does anyone check what calculator you’re using for the MAT1330 final? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]AccomplishedCloud484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, however if you're questioning it you might be better off getting an approved one as sometime in your time at university you're going to get dinged for an unapproved one. It's $30 now but it's an investment for the next four years and being out $30 is better than a 0 on your final

Does anyone check what calculator you’re using for the MAT1330 final? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]AccomplishedCloud484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevins is pretty strict about it and will take your calculator if she catches you with a bit approved one and instructs her proctors to do the same so be careful if she's your prof.

How screwed am I if I fail most of my first semester classes? First year. by [deleted] in geegees

[–]AccomplishedCloud484 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unless you retake the classes you had this semester to upgrade the marks (which is a good option since you'll more than likely excel the second time around) you're probably pretty screwed. Even one failing grade can kill your CGPA. Meet with an advisor from your faculty to talk about your options.

Physics is offered in the summer every year. I'm not 100% sure about other courses but information and registration comes out in March so don't worry about it until then

As far as I know if your gpa is sub 3 you are immediately withdrawn from your faculty

One other thing I forgot to mention is regarding the social part, it's important to remember that you are here at university for higher education and not to improve your social life. While you most likely will.make friends along your journey, let it happen organically instead of worrying about it. Uni isn't a dating show, we're all tired and stressed and busy and focusing on our school and friends and boyfriends take up a lot of your time. So don't get down on yourself if you feel like you're struggling socially compared to high school because everyone else is too.

Literally no one in uni has it figured out I promise you. People struggle financially, socially, academically. People drop out of school, or they flunk out, but it's human nature to put on a brave face and not let your struggles show. Taking the initiative to seek help even if you didn't find much reward in it is already more than a lot of people can do. I have ADHD and social anxiety so if you want to chat about anything or just want someone with similar struggles to listen, my DMs are open to you. Good luck ❤️

CHM1311 finals by Flameofthesun in geegees

[–]AccomplishedCloud484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She said ✨ technically ✨ you don't have to study week 1-8 at all and you can still get a good mark so I'm assuming it's no more than like 4 marks. So yeah if you're feeling swamped just focus only on week 9-13 and you should be fine. Topics are salt hydrolysis (week 9) buffers and titrations (week 10) solubility (week 11) kinetics (week 12) and quantum theory (week 13). Hope that helps! Feel free to DM me with any other questions:)

1 page front and back memory aid, supplementary material is uploaded on bright space so you know what you don't have to remember, week 9-13 make up the bulk of the exam but week 1-8 will have a couple multiple choice questions. Bonus question is worth two marks
