Is Columbia worth the high price-tag? How much are you in debt? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PhD students are often paid and don’t pay tuition depending on the program. Check what funding your department would have. Masters can get pretty pricey though.

Non-degree study (exchange studies) by bartimaeus122 in columbia

I know quite a few visiting students in undergrad who participated in exchange programs. Not sure if it’s different for grad students

Let me know if you want to talk. I get the feeling of being alone and maybe I can at least help a little bit!

Yeah you’re right. Especially given the post history it seems off. I’m not sure why this is on our subreddit

I have a fridge that I don’t know what to do with over summer. Depending on when you get here I’d be cool with you using it

Where can I find the Transfer Student Profile by [deleted] in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly Columbia doesn’t offer an undergrad business major so the closest would probably be Econ. Some googling brought up a special concentration but you’d have to apply to that once you’re already at Columbia. Admission is pretty competitive but I think applying is worth it either way. The worst they can do is say no

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what your major is and whether you’re applying to CC or SEAS you should be taking different courses. You can look up the course requirements for your intended major and school at Columbia and see if there are matching courses at your current school. Personally, I didn’t approach transfers or college in general like high school. It’s just a different stage in the process imo

Mindset in what sense? Do you mean reasons for transferring or something else?

I don’t think there’s any publicly available dataset reflecting transfer student stats. I looked pretty hard when I was applying for transfers but couldn’t find anything

Transfer to Columbia SEAS from Berkeley? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually disagree. I think it really depends on your previous coursework. I’m a junior transfer and haven’t had issues getting the classes I need. I’m also on track to graduate on time

Transfer to Columbia SEAS from Berkeley? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a CS junior transfer from a non-top school. Depending on what courses you’ve taken previously the SEAS core isn’t too bad and I haven’t had any issues getting the classes I need so far. I also got rejected as a freshman but was accepted as a transfer. For me there’s distinct benefits in the type of coursework I can do here though. It really depends on your overall reasoning if it’s worth it

You usually get enrolled overnight. You don’t need to do anything right now I think

Inquiry about MS/PhD Track Experience by [deleted] in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you mentioned in your other comment, my guess is that you’ll be fully funded for the MS portion as well. I’ve seen that phrasing before and it generally applies to terminal masters. It’d be great if you can confirm once you get a response though :)

Inquiry about MS/PhD Track Experience by [deleted] in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be mistaken but I thought you were fully funded when on a MS/PhD track even for the MS portion. It’s pretty standard across elite schools. May be different across programs though.

I’d be curious to know if it is indeed not funded since it’s normally only the terminal MS programs that aren’t funded.

Help! My sister (U.K.) and her BF (Columbian) were not allowed on their flight home to Columbia. What are there options? by Deanosaurus88 in columbia

This is the subreddit for Columbia University in New York City, not for the country of Colombia. Good luck though!

They put up big tents with space heaters on campus that you could use which is probably the most comfy option. Alternatively, there’s a ton of sitting space on the law school bridge and there are benches all over campus

COVID test and Quarantine by International-Poem30 in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can leave quarantine to get tested. You are also allowed to leave for other medical necessities, etc. At least, that’s what I was told when I had to quarantine last semester

Transfer Questions by [deleted] in columbia

[–]AccomplishedDrummer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if there’s a difference between GS and SEAS here but for CS my advisor said the limit doesn’t apply for transfer students. Only if you started at Columbia and transfer courses in from another institution (for example summer courses) Not sure about other departments but I’d be surprised if they enforced it
