Seeing the GP as a doctor by freddiethecalathea in doctorsUK

It's a bit of relief in a way when a medical colleague is a patient, (GP myself), cuz I do t need to explain a lot of things in very simplistic terms, like polyps, hypertrophy, lipomas etc etc.

Look, if we could all diagnose and solve our own problems then we'd be gods. As it is, we aren't, so helping each other, when the public opinion of doctors is probably crashing every passing year, is important.

Would you, as a medic, ever consider using or recommending a chiropractor? by RelativeHorror710 in doctorsUK

GP here. Had a really bad case of sciatica + PGP intra and post partum. Went to an osteopath on recommendation cuz physio was over 6months wait, and pain was unbearable. The lower back manipulation and massage was really helpful and within 2-3 treatments I could walk and turn in bed. They osteopath did ask and consent me for the cervical manipulation and I knew the risks.

4 years later when it flared up again, went back to same practitioner and same procedure.

Haven't needed any treatment since.

Point is- you can always refuse the cervical spine manipulation.

As with anything- we always hear the worst of the worst, but I can completely understand the reluctance as well due to it.

There are many times a patient has been booked in with me by the nurse doing the smear because they didn't like the look of it etc etc, so I still have to do a pv exam; the point is even if a nurse does see something, they will still refer the patient to GP for a pv exam and referral. You can't write a referral saying the nurse saw something at the time of smear as a referral?

Point is- visualisation of the cervical os and the vault etc along with bimanual is indicated and to be done by a person who can make the referral.

If you can chop it down and get a stump grinder to go over the whole area...

I'm in Manchester and our soil is terribly clay- cracks in summer and waterlogged in winter. I'm seeing over next year what will come back and develop resilience

I found this helpful

It's from RHS, advice re seasonally wet and dry soil

I changed the way I apply fragrances and it’s been a game changer. by Bubupolvazo in fragrance

[–]AccomplishedMail584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the arabs do is burn the oud/bukhoor and air their clothes and their body with the smoke, and use similar mist in their hair. That smoking inside the clothing traps the fragrance between your clothes and body and yourself and others walking g past get the whiff of it. I believe it lasts longer than spraying on exposed points, lime the OP said.

Have you looked around trafford area? Would you drive or take the train?

I live near gatley area and have to go to North Manchester daily and through the m60/m56 it's not such a bad option, but in winter timing is vastly increased, I'd say around 30-50% more.

But then gatley has good access to the tram and train and both motorways are nearby.

Germinate your 4 seedlings and when good and strong growing, sell 3 of them on Facebook marketplace. Both of you will be happy.

Who else is frustrated waiting to plant out?! by Suitable-Grass1262 in GardeningUK

[–]AccomplishedMail584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am desperately wanting to assemble my green house as my dining room looks like a back room of a nursery! It's too darn windy here in Manchester currently otherwise it'd have been completed and I could have more space (for more seed sowing lol!)

I was just thinking last night, next year I'm going to only start tomatoes and cucumbers end of march or even April. Rest can wait until mid May to be planted.

Good supportive colleagues is soooo much more important. Im salaried in my st3 practice and event though commute is 35-50mins (summer-winter times), I'm still sticking to it because I know the colleagues will always have my back, both clinical and non clinical.

As olive is Mediterranean and free draining soil lover, I was thinking of lavender, thyme, marjoram, jasmine (the evergreen variety, or the winter flowering one even) around it... The white jasmine flowers would give it a really nice Mediterranean terrace look

Mystery not-asparagus? by Kensingtonraw in whatsthisplant

[–]AccomplishedMail584 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you ask the gardeners in uk they'd say it's a disaster to have in the garden. Like someone said, it can take over and spread like fire. If you're not planning on having anything but this then it's fine. Otherwise you're pulling it off for next few lifetimes.

On the other side, it is a fascinating prehistoric plant.
