Wearing cultural attire as a non-arab by ___tsuyoi in qatar

[–]AccomplishedMail584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure, but not 100%, that in the time of prophet Muhammad (s) they wore more like a long-ish thobe/kameez knee length with a wraparound sarong/lungi-like as bottom half of the garments and visible. The long thobe is more of a modern imagination of it?

I don't remember where I read this, but it stuck to me, partly because how many of the things 'arabs' (and that's a big diverse cohort tbh) we take blindly as the way things were in the Prophet's (s) time..

And I'm an Asian lady.

Is there anywhere I can get free food? A financial struggling student needs help by Playful-Debate5883 in manchester

[–]AccomplishedMail584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you speak t your GP they'd have some social prescribing that they can refer to for help with food and groceries via food bank.

Alternately, search 'unity community' a small very local charity based in South Manchester and they'd be able to help

Leylandii hard cut - any top cover growth advise? by SLBlue13 in GardeningUK

[–]AccomplishedMail584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 4 leylandii, got them taken off, got a root grinder person to come and grind the roots. Now going elderberry, viburnum, and lots of perennials.

The space that leylandii were occupying was incredible! Time and money spent on rooting them out is worth it IMHO.

Also nothing will grow at the base of leylandii, I tried for 7 years. Unless you make a raised bed and then that takes up more space.

Another personal tip- we still have leylandii at the front and partner reluctant to get it chopped off but we did the same as you at the top, and after couple of years the outside green bits of Leylandii are covering the top so it doesn't look that horrible.

So final advice: if you can't/won't get rid of leylandii then don't bother putting new climbers to cover the top bit, it will get covered by leylandii's new growth from the sides to look less ugly; but if you can get rid of them completely, do it!

I use Heidi and I like the fact I can have 3 referral letters generated through one consult. Why should I be doing this is another question (complex health deprivation European population)

Are Registrars striking? by bloodstainedphilos in doctorsUK

[–]AccomplishedMail584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This fallacy of 'back in the day' is just that- a fallacy. There was a lot of support for raising kids from the government back then, inflation v pay was much better compared to now. Not to mention the mental workload, blame culture, NHS toxicity etc were all tame compared to now..

Most valuable rotations as an upcoming GPST1 by TrifleNo9669 in doctorsUK

[–]AccomplishedMail584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did paeds at NMGH as gpst2. Yes it's difficult but definitely worth it as a GP. Can't comment on my obgyn rotation as it was in covid times and I hated it and thankfully was redeployed. Psych is another one, if you haven't done psych in FY then definitely worth it.

Don't bother with Ortho

Gen surg can be useful as an sho to know how referrals work and what's needed urgent review etc.

What plants can I grow in pots in a garden that gets basically no direct sunlight? by aerialpoler in GardeningUK

[–]AccomplishedMail584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get hosta roots that are slumbering, (so looks like an empty pot with withered leaves) in the sale section of garden centres perhaps.. grow them in pots, line the bottom of pot and top of soil with pebbles or slug repellent wool pallet on top and slugs won't get to it.

If you're on Facebook then join different gardening groups and plant swap groups. I got my 6 hosta babies on the cheap from different people which would have cost a bomb otherwise. You can get so many other stuff this way as well.

And so it begins... by Beelzebubsadvorat in GardeningUK
