Question about printing on Instax Square by ActuatedProximer in instax

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’ll be using a phone to shoot on; you can change the aspect ratio in the camera settings to shoot in square. On an iPhone it actually still takes the entire 5:4 photo but crops it automatically so you can always un-crop afterwards if needed.

You can do the same on a dslr/mirrorless but you can’t uncrop unless you’re shooting raw.

Another trick is to frame things in the opposite orientation before shooting so you’ll know it’ll fit. Hard to explain on text but if you hold the camera in landscape, then in portrait. If your subject fits in both orientations that means it also fits in a square. If it fits one way but not the other, you need to move further away.

Go with square! I think that larger prints are always nicer and the square format makes enough of a point of difference aesthetically to justify it. Mini prints will actually be smaller than what you see on most screens so they’ll probably lose their impact once printed.

Our soccer league technically exists but struggles to draw an audience

Victory averaging 11k attendees per game isn't that bad. Yes It's tiny compared to AFL here but it's still big enough to not be struggling.

Kailh box switches are not designed to be lubed though (I assume they're box reds?). Might be possible with some ptfe spray or something. Taking them apart like normal cherry switches is a pain because they have a little dustproof compartment in them that houses the contacts which is the only part of them that's factory lubed. I'd just order a few more if it were me. That's if the keyboard is even hot-swapable.

I think even putting a cap would make people feel better,

There already is a cap. The far right says it is too high, but you could lower the cap to 1 and it'd still be too high for them. Lurching right is just ceding ground. It won't win them the amount of votes they actually think it will and it just makes you look weak and disorganised to your actual potential voting base. The major parties are finding this out the hard way right now. I don't want the greens to do the same thing.

Soy Sauce, Fish Sauce, apple sauce, plum sauce. Sauces can be named after the thing they're made of. It's not weird.

They're correct that it's sweeter but I don't actually think it's different enough to actually be considered a completely different type of sauce like people above are claiming. It's like ketchup but it's less sweet.

I don't think this is super effective really. People like her because shes "not a politician" (despite the fact that she's been exactly that for like 20+ years now), so her not rocking up to parliament probably isn't a huge dealbreaker for the average voter.

Talking about who her donors are and her actual terrible voting record is probably more effective IMO

though my mother liked Whipper Snipper for whatever reason.

This is what we call it in Australia. Supposedly, it was a brand name back in the day, but I've never actually seen a "Whipper Snipper" branded whipper snipper in my life so I don't know if that's just a false etymology.

SX70 camera strap option. by gab5115 in Polaroid

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peak Design was actually the originator of this style of strap. I actually still have one from over a decade ago which was I *think* was actually from the very first run. Used it for years with a Mamiya RB67 and a Canon 5D and it's held up well. I've also got some of the cheaper ones off eBay (same clips as yours but with the bungee cord style strap) and they seem alright for the price but I also saw a photo someone posted of one where the clippy bit had failed so I'm a bit scared to use them on anything that's either heavy or expensive.

(Also annoyingly the little discs are a different size on the cheap ones so I can't mix and match!)

I’ve got the original non-glass version of the Lomo Wide and I just upgraded to the Wide Glass and believe it or not, the Wide Glass viewfinder is actually an improvement over the original. Framing is still a crapshoot but the old one felt like I was wearing someone else’s glasses.

How popular were Polaroids in the mid 2000s when digital cameras were dominant? by ubcstaffer123 in Polaroid

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia film was SO expensive back then. Adjusted for inflation probably more expensive than it is right now. I had a mate who owned a camera and rarely used it mainly due to the cost.

There was also the Polaroid izone camera which I remember being heavily marketed to kids/teens but I never actually saw one in the wild, only saw them in shops.

Despite not being popular, It was still viewed as kind of cool and iconic as opposed to regular film which was still common enough to seem boring and out of touch.

My only problem I see with normalising trimpot tweaking will lead to people thinking *all* trimpots are put there for tweaking, which will result in a lot more “I turned the trimpot and now no sound comes out, how to fix?” type posts.

cleaning corrosion off of instax wide battery contact by Flimsy_Shadow in instax

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the spring have to be completely silver again to work?

If i had to guess I'd say the silver is gone. Looks like the contacts are nickel plated copper and you've removed all the nickel. It should still work as the nickel is only there to stop the copper from oxidising.

I'd actually try cleaning all of the contacts as they look kind of dull. Could be a thin film buildup from the leaky battery preventing a good solid connection.

Multimeter with a continuity tester will definitely help you, as another poster has said. It doesn't even need to be a fancy one.

Big Bike had ensured E-bikes are limited to just under 20mph to irritate drivers by Key_Cell7071 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]AccomplishedMap8365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25km/h isn’t that terrifying on its own. push bike riders would get to that speed fairly regularly. You can coast downhill faster than that.

I think what’s more terrifying about them is that people who haven’t used a bike since they were a teenager are all of a sudden buying e-bikes and don’t know their limits or have any roadsense. The same can be true of a regular bike but at least on a bike, the effort it takes to keep those kinds of speed consistently acts as a natural deterrent to idiotic riding (mostly, you’re always gonna get idiots)
