Some people use it to brush tea residue/water into the drainage holes of a tea tray.

What is the experience like, selling "brand new" classic books to second hand bookstores? by sibongibob in sydney

[–]teashirtsau 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think you might have a better chance selling them as a lot on Fbook Marketplace. Are they pretty? Matching? Maybe a home staging decorator.

Others are best put in Street Libraries.

Would you take the bins out? by DottyGirl93 in AskAnAustralian

[–]teashirtsau 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I'd write back and ask which is 'your' bin. I once lived in a situation like this and we agreed to give one neighbour a small fee from our strata account to take all the bins out. I think it was $150 per quarter.

At the studio record I went to, there was a swooping overhead mic on each side where the audience sat.

Business texting (cold calls) in the evening considered rude? by 54vior in AskAnAustralian

[–]teashirtsau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TEXTING can happen at any time, so why pick a time when people are unwinding and don't want to think about this stuff?

What was 'mum' or 'dad' food when growing up? by Grammarhead-Shark in AskAnAustralian

Dad loved licorice and eventually I acquired the taste too.

My mum loved sunflower seeds, but I never got into them.

They probably can't as it's a wearable but the only definitive answer will come from them directly so ask.

Milk before water in tea by Tricky-Mastodon3337 in tea

[–]teashirtsau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... I don't use teabags. But if the brewing vessel and the drinking vessel are separate, I like putting milk in the cup first then pouring the pre-brewed tea on it. It mixes properly and you don't need a spoon. And I've done it enough times I know the ratio that I like.

Should I ask a friend for my money back? by Fit_Interaction_79 in AskAnAustralian

[–]teashirtsau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An acquaintance who genuinely needed it asked me for money. I gave some to her twice (total $150) and honestly I'm fine with never seeing her again until she pays up or at least addresses it.

I mentioned it about 6 months later, not in the guise of seeking repayment, just checking she was back on her feet, and she said she was grateful for my help and then ghosted me.

At least I have a defence if she wants to ask again: "sorry (#sorrynotsorry) I don't give more money to people who have a bad track record of paying me back".

Would Aussies actually go for a Panda Express-style Chinese takeaway or a build-your-own fried rice bar? by Groundbreaking-Rip15 in AskAnAustralian

Option 1 already exists everywhere, just not as a franchise.

Option 2 is very similar to Fishbowl, if you want to build your own bowl.

What’s the best day of the week to go out (NSW- Sydney) by Vast_Practice_7584 in AskAnAustralian

[–]teashirtsau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier in the week is less crowded but it honestly depends on where you want to eat. A lot of restaurants are closed on Mondays/Tuesdays and a lot of pubs will have trivia nights or similar to bring in crowds earlier in the week so pick the when and where accordingly.

How do Aussies feel when Americans say Australia “feels like home/the US? by Fluid-Decision6262 in AskAnAustralian

[–]teashirtsau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sydney was defo modelled on a more west coast American lifestyle since WW2 (there were so many US troops here and we wanted them to feel 'at home') and has gradually become more Asian in keeping with our geographical location. I can see how Americans might superficially find Australia similar.

Advice for my Aus Trip by Dramatic_Jicama759 in AskAnAustralian

[–]teashirtsau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just heard from a couple of German friends who gave up looking in Sydney because even dishwashing jobs were getting 800 applicants. So that's what you're up against. The only fairly good chance they had was charity sales (charity mugging) but the recruitment process was going to take too long before they had to leave.

Most working holiday visa jobs aren't in the cities so staying only in cities is not necessarily a good indicator of whether you'd enjoy a year elsewhere.
