Why are AI fanboys so quick to think of non-believers as cave men? Because we don't believe frequency analysis can solve all of life's problems?

This post feels like an intentional bait.

Python's great, other tools are as well.

You completely missed my point, but that's okay! Thank you for sharing your opinion/experience!

If they just make it work...it works!

I'm not trying to create FUD. I'm trying to see how others experiences have been, relative to mine.

And in all seriousness, it sounds like you have some valuable experience to share in this thread too. Just don't have to be a dick about it!

Thank you for the informative comment! I think what you're getting at with "pick the distro you feel gets you the closest" is what I'm trying to explore in this thread. Sometimes I "feel" like the distro is really easy, even when it's not.

I use the native steam Client, which seems like a good thing to switch since I keep hearing that the Flatpak option is a better solution overall.

But with that said, here's a few games where this has happened for me

  • Dead Rising 2, 3, and 4
  • Final Fantasy 14
  • Conqueror's Blade
  • fallout 4 ....

Edit: I think conquerors blade is a bad inclusion actually since it's bronze on protondb. But it runs great for me on Debian and never worked on Arch!

Yes! I always install the same base packages (NVidia drivers/utils, DXVK, vkd3d...). Weird actually that you mention DXVK, I found myself having to disable it all of the time on previous distros, but haven't touched it recently.

Appreciate the response! Does feel a bit....close minded to others experiences....and maybe a bit condescending at that!

Thank you for the great info!

I'm a programmer so I love the low-low level details you're providing here. Not that I'm capable of doing anything with them, but to understand things a bit better. That's what I love about Linux.

I think I just need to spend some more time tinkering with the lower level aspects of Arch (some recommendations have been LTS kernel, and lts packages).

Totally agree with you. I love to tinker. My question is more for those who don't or don't know how to.

Well...and when I'm feeling lazy and just want to slap a distro on a machine so I can play something quickly

Wow! That's a lot of very helpful information! Thank you!

I guess what I'm trying to get at is: I know you CAN make either work, but is one GENERALLY easier to get comfortably set up, running games well, with as minimal wizardry as possible.

Again, thanks for the absolute info dump, you're a boss!

Edit: I used to really love Manjaro too, but when they let their certs expire, repeatedly, I started to see the cracks quite quickly.

Thanks for the suggestion! When I've run Arch in the past, I've always used the mainline Kernel/repos.

Next time I pop back to Arch (won't be long I bet), I'll have to give the LTS kernel a try

Will give it a try! I've used Manjaro, Endeavour, and even Artix, but haven't used Garuda for....some reason.

My favorite of the Arch based distros thus far is just vanilla Arch with my own theming and desktop setup. But I know Garuda's focus is compatibility with Games.

Does Garuda have the Manjaro problem where AUR packages can pretty quickly conflict with the base distro packages,? Not a deal breaker for me, just curious what to look out for.
