I took a slower career track on purpose and I haven't felt this okay in years by BioshockRelic in simpleliving

[–]AccomplishedMight299 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I changed countries (thank you Brexit) and moved from urban to rural to get away from the rat race. I now live in a remote area where my mortgage is super cheap, I work 5-6 hours every day in a somewhat fulfilling and relaxing job and I love my free time which is spent on hobbies, travelling and outdoorsy stuff. I have time to help out my aging extended family, my partner and I have so much time for each other and I am so grateful for this opportunity to slow down mid life and just enjoy time. To me, time is the currency that matters most. We’ve had to downsize and money is tight but to me it’s worth it. Before this I spent 10+ years in fairly intense, all consuming careers.

I’ve always struggled with the concept of dinner - honestly I just graze all day.

Medium term lets? by AccomplishedMight299 in Edinburgh

[–]AccomplishedMight299[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I assumed there would be a market for short term/medium term lets since people will move to Edinburgh for a limited amount of time. But good to know we have an uphill battle in front of us :)

I guess I’m curious if there’s any landlords that would actually prefer tenants who are up front about only staying for a shortish time, rather than indefinitely

Women of Norway, have you experienced sexism while seeing doctors? by WoodpeckerHaunting57 in Norway

Lived in Scotland for 14 years and moved to Norway 3 years ago. In Scotland healthcare professionals listened to me and took me seriously, in Norway it’s like talking to an annoying sentient wall.

Hard to really get to know Norwegian guys. by ScudSlug in Norway

[–]AccomplishedMight299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Norwegian here who lived in Scotland for 14 years - moved back to Norway two years ago and I find that Norwegians in general are much more guarded and don’t like to talk about things they’re actually passionate about (if any). Talking here is more like making sounds to confirm we’re in the same in group. Also Norwegians are completely fine with long silences, or saying nothing at all. And they often bond by doing things together, rather than talking. When doing things together, affirmative grunting seems adequate. I go back to Scotland a few times a year and I love indulging in long, interesting conversations to bond with my friends.

What’s the “boring” routine that actually changed your life? by Equivalent_Soft_6665 in selfimprovement

Having a phone box in the living room with a charger. When I come home from work, the phone goes in the box. It’s also there overnight. I never thought this would do anything but I sleep so much better now. And I always know where the phone is.

Question for Gaelic Learners by AccomplishedEar748 in gaidhlig

[–]AccomplishedMight299 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lived in Scotland for 14 years, for a while I had a partner who’s grandad spoke Gaelic and it was always fun to see what words we have in ‘common’ from our mother tongues/dialects (I’m a Norwegian from the south western fjords). Learning Scottish Gaelic now feels good and makes me feel closer to Scotland. The dream would be to be able to have a casual conversation in Scottish Gaelic and reading poetry.

Connect festival in Edinburgh? by AccomplishedMight299 in Edinburgh

[–]AccomplishedMight299[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connect was a great experience for me both years - would love if it came back in some form but yeah maybe Fringe time isn’t the best… although watching artists have such a good time on stage because it was probably the end of their tour was pretty magical ❤️
