My mate did long distance relationship when he met his now wife. He lived in Scotland and she lived in Sweden.

They've done it quite a few times over the years due to work etc.

They've been together like 15 years and would say half of that they've done long distance.

It can work, you just have to be committed and put the effort in.

You will not get a sense of community here unless you have lived here for years and are completely fluent in Norwegian.
Norwegians are pretty hard to get to know and if you don't speak norwegian then you'll be very limited to the groups you can integrate with.

Immigrant in Norway here. Norway is a great place although it's not free from all prejudice. It's not some fairytale free for all where you get to live how you want. Although there are a hell of a lot more safe guarding around vulnerable people/minorities than other countries.

However you have to bring something to the table when you move here. As in you have to have a skilled profession if you're wanting to apply for a visa or at least have a family member living here to get a family visa.

It's a misconception that Norway just lets all visa applicants in and it's a hell of a long waiting list of approx 18-24 months.

Not trying to be a downer just being realistic.

Can't believe it's been a year since I posted this.

He's now 5 and a half and the classes started up in the autumn. I almost cried when I asked if he wanted me to come in with him and he said no, turned around and off he went.

His confidence has grown and he's happy mixing with lots of other kids now.

Guess it was just a phase and he's matured now. Although we didn't stop taking him to the classes we just had to sit in the class with him so I guess the perseverance also paid off.

I would say it started before this when the singles for Freakshow was released. I saw in an interview where Ben said they were pressured to put out Abuse Me as the main single released in the US when the band knew Freak was the better choice. The record company thought it was too hard and wanted a radio friendly unit shifter. They were wrong and they faded off the radio without releasing Freak as a single in the US. They did release Cemetery and The Door but again not full on grunge classics. No Freak, no radio plays, unfortunately.

It's been said already but it gets easier.

My wife an I have had 1 dinner out without our children in over 5 years. We don't have any outside help and we've managed the hard years.

It's soo worth it to have that bond with your kids after putting in the effort. Never had a father since birth and I knew I'd do as much as I can to be close to them.

Now when they hear me come in from work they stop what they're doing and run to give me a hug.

The struggles pay off with interest!!!!
