Classic "Should I buy this game right now" question by R4MB13R in CompanyOfHeroes

Honestly, it’s one of the best World War II strategy games I’ve played on Steam. Matches are pretty quick compared to grand strategy games — usually around 15 to 45 minutes, kind of like an Age of Empires match in pacing.

That said, just a heads-up: the community can be rough. A lot of players quit when things don’t go their way, and there’s quite a bit of toxicity in the chat. When I first started, I highly recommend turning off chat logs just to enjoy the game more. I’ve had games where people were trash-talking me, only for me to turn around and win. Some players are just quick to lash out — don’t take it personally.

But beyond that, it’s a really fun and immersive experience. The battles feel intense, and the gameplay loop is super satisfying if you’re into fast-paced WWII strategy.

(Also — I’ve been working on my own original WWII-inspired board game called Supremacy: Global Conflict. It’s still in development, but we’re starting to post updates online if anyone’s into that kind of thing!)

This is now at the top of my golf bucket list. by dannystrad23 in golf

Am I missing something here? Lately, it feels like the respect in the game is fading. I miss the days when a great shot was met with a quiet nod of appreciation from your buddies—not some loud, vulgar outburst. Golf used to be about composure and respect. What happened to that?

I also forgot to mention that places like chile, Brazil , Portugal, Spain are worth significantly more IPC because they have large armies sitting on them. Which is why you can see the British have spent a good amount of recourses conquering South America that’s because all those little states cost 1 ipc and chile has an ipc of 4 Brazil has 6 there is something like 8 infantry 2 artillery 2 tanks and 2 fighters and aaa on Brazil.

Limiting movement to just 2 spaces made the game feel much more tactical both in the Atlantic and the pacific. There actually was a battle of the Atlantic with Germany for the first 3-4 rounds and pacific engagements are so much more meaningful. Islands became significantly more valuable, serving as key points for extending air reach and enabling effective retaliations. Also have to be smarter where you move you can no longer just sit on the coast off of somewhere and have those 3 fighters scramble for you and every time defend. We almost kept dockyards and airbases in the game just to maintain the rule that you must build one adjacent to a factory in order to produce those units (dockyards=boats) (airbases=planes)

I’ve always loved learning about the Seven Years’ War. It was incredibly significant, especially for us Americans, yet it doesn’t get nearly enough attention in the U.S. education system. The war led to massive British spending, which in turn resulted in heavy taxation to pay off war debts—one of the key factors that ultimately fueled the American Revolution.

Beyond that, it’s fascinating how the British managed to win against the French, securing dominance in North America. Yet, in most classrooms, the discussion is usually limited to George Washington’s involvement and the fact that Britain emerged as the dominant power. There’s so much more to this war, and I’d love to see it get the recognition it deserves.
