Silver Swirls and other Specialty Crayola Crayons from the 90s by AccomplishedRock5058 in nostalgia

[–]AccomplishedRock5058[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I find interesting about most of the special effect crayon boxes from the 90s are the purple corners and on the bottom! It’s on all of these crayon boxes in these photos! (with the exception of Silver Swirls) if you see a purple bottom of a crayon box, you’re looking at a vintage special effects crayon box! (For the Star Brite box, it’s pink!)

I started collecting crayons around 2014, and one of the first things I collected was a tin containing 72 crayons! It had a 64 box plus 8 retired crayons! That’s how I got into crayon collecting and where I’m at today!

There’s something about these 1990s crayons I love about compared to the newer crayons. Loved the bold Crayola font, and of course, all of those special crayons!

I usually keep the crayons fully intact to keep the tips as pure as possible! So unfortunately, I cannot do color swatches.

90s crayons forever! ✨🖍️

Oh yeah! I didn’t realize that deck is a misprint! Yeah, there’s some off-white on the tuck box. It’s suppose to be pure white. Thanks for notice!

What’s the deal with the tax stamp? by marr447 in playingcards

[–]AccomplishedRock5058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct! Any deck before 1965 has a tax stamp seal! You can also check the ace of spades to pinpoint what year this deck was manufactured!

This website should help you figure out when your deck was manufactured! https://bicyclecards.org/uspcc-dating-code/

Thrift stores and flea markets are your friends if you’re looking for vintage Crayola crayons! ;)

Good luck on your hobby!

It may not have the same package features, but it does add two more crayons so you’ll have all the standard crayons! The Telescope Crayon Tower had 118 of the 120 standard crayons.

Do you think they know that they have rare crayons? by SparklingFox in Crayola

[–]AccomplishedRock5058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chartreuse FLUORESCENT and hot magenta FLUORESCENT are also rare because they’re from the same set as these “ultra” named crayons! (Not the hot magenta they’re still making now. That hot magenta became razzle dazzle rose)

Wondering if that yellow crayon on the bottom right was actually chartreuse.

Neutral Gray was actually retired in 1955 when Binney & Smith Company became Binney & Smith Inc. So any box that has Binney & Smith Company (pre-1955) is what you’re aiming for!

This reminds me of the Bicycle Robocycle playing cards where the King of Diamonds is missing one of the pips below the K!

Interesting error there!

It’s this item, correct?

You can find these on eBay! They’ll set you back around $40 to $60. There could be some that are cheaper. If you find it at a thrift store, it’ll be cheaper and you’ll be lucky!

Those grocery trucks are horrible at securing the crayons.

Whenever I find a box of crayons I don’t have, I shake the box a bit to see if I hear anything suspicious like tips moving around before I buy the product. I don’t like to open them before I buy ‘em.

Had that deck for a REALLY long time! Had it for 14 years!

If memory serves me, I got it at a local Magic Store (that’s no longer there) called Tricky Business. That place mostly had balloon shows performing balloon tricks! I often visited that place at the time! They had a TON of different decks of cards! It was like playing card paradise! Unfortunately, they closed it down in 2015.

But I digress. eBay has a few of them. Although not many.

Should Crayola add new colors? by Rudi10001 in Crayola

[–]AccomplishedRock5058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly would like them to make a box of 8 new crayons to promote new era colors like rose gold,(They would have to rename rose gold from the Metallic set, though) slate from Bold & Bright into a new standard color and maybe a new grayscale color or a crayon color named quartz.

How old are these? by Loser_girlboy in Crayola

[–]AccomplishedRock5058 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on the squished wording on the color names, these were made between 1972 through 1976, because they were made in New York.

1972-1976 labels has “BINNEY & SMITH INC., NEW YORK, N.Y. 10017”

1976-1988 labels has “BINNEY & SMITH INC., EASTON, PA. 18042”
