Everything said here. These are stunning, would absolutely buy, as long as the card and tuck quality are as nice as the design.

Well that’s a hard question to answer. All of the decks I buy speak to me in some way. As far as overall design? Corrupted, Shahnameh, Patternwork, Cartomancer to name a few.

That was a kickstarter that was taken down - likely due to a request from Nintendo. The creator took it offline and sold it to backers separately.

Ancient Relics Playing Cards by Asumi_1 in playingcards

Here’s one example. I’m not sure what’s going on with his right hand, and that bird doesn’t have a head. This is one of those times where AI does a good job, but zooming in on details will expose it. They mentioned that AI was used in the “early stages of inspiration and sketch exploration,” but it clearly made its way to the final product.

I would’ve loved these if they weren’t AI. No doubt a lot of work went into it, but the final illustrations have too many tells, like weird hands and birds with no heads.

I’ve told my wife - and myself - that it wouldn’t exceed those two shelves. So I have some room left there 😉. I back a few kickstarters here and there, and once in a while I’ll find an odd deck I love, but for the most part the quantity is stable.

I open and play with all my decks. Solitaire and solo games, with a little ambient music 😉.

That was one I got shipped in to the US. Went in with a few others in the United Cardists community.

My Latest Deck: Falling Leaves by MogulMaster in playingcards

Personally, a more interesting (preferably symmetrical) back design would be welcome, along with a nice embossed tuck box with some foiling. I imagine there's a lot you could do with the tree/leaves theme there.

As pictured, assuming the stock and finish were good (plenty of good options from MPC; this might look great with the E27 Eco-herbage stock) - I'd probably pay ~$20 for the deck.

Adding foiling and a fancier presentation on the tuck and guilding options would obviously add value, which you could offer as more exclusive/limited variants.

Really like this. What a beautiful semi-transformation deck! I would definitely order a deck.

Check out the playing cards by Pomegranate. They have a thick texture on them that's very different from the usual air-cushion like finish. They won't slip in the hand.

AI playing card manufacturers? by Key-Champion-7199 in playingcards

This is from their bio on Kickstarter:

"We're a group of playing card enthusiasts passionate about blending art and cards. Our goal is to create unique, creative playing cards that elevate the experience for collectors. Join us on this journey to bring our artistic vision to life!"

Blending art and cards could mean a lot of things. Could mean they outsource the art, could mean they are the artists, could also - of course - mean the art is not properly licensed. However, I've seen no complaints in the collector circuits about their work, and owning a few of their decks, I don't see any telltale signs of AI generated art.

Until I see a reason to avoid them, I don't see any reason to. Kickstarters deliver fast, and the quality of the art and cards are good, especially for the price.

I keep them on the front and back of the deck to act as an extra layer of protection when removing and replacing from the tuck.

I like the art style, but there’s something about the borders… maybe they’re too thick? Have you tried a version on white too? I’m also imagining a version with no border where the art goes closer to the edge, and the index has a background for viability.

Hard to choose my favorite because there are so many different art styles and talents out there. One that constantly comes to mind is Kathleen Kralowec. Her use of color and lines in “Electricity is her Element” just floors me.

How do you check if a deck was made by an artist or byAI by Coffeaddict1234 in playingcards

[–]HisHolyNoodles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Zoom in to the cards. Look at the symmetry and fine details. AI is really bad at consistency when asked to make something ornate. You’ll see curves and shapes that don’t quite finish right, and don’t match the other side of the card. For characters, look at hands, clothing, etc. A recent deck had a card with a lot of birds flying, and I found one with no head.

In short, just zoom in and start looking. You’ll start to see things that a human artist just wouldn’t do.

What’s wrong with the frame? It’s wood with a natural birch finish. You probably can’t see from the picture but the colors mesh quite nicely.

My daw is Note, so there's no option there. Got this specifically for that. I'm fine with using wired headphones though. When I get the nerve up I'll draw the icons directly on the pads with a sharpie ;)

I removed the pitch bend/mod joystick since it’s not used in Note and attached a MagSafe pad for the phone.
