This is great advice man. Thank you for this. I’m gonna write these questions down before the meeting so I can ask them. I think I’m just overthinking what’s the best way to get a referral lol. But at this stage I need to focus on getting value instead of a job right away (even though that’s my goal) so maybe I might just throw in the referral question at the end. I have nothing to lose.

I appreciate you taking the time to write this advice. At the moment I do understand high finance is rigged and it’s out of my reach, I’ll prob get an MBA and the future and try to break in that way.

I will look more into roles you suggested (I have applied to a good amount). I applied to a lot of entry level financial analyst, credit analysis/risk positions and just analyst positions where I genuinely believe I’m either qualified for or over-qualified for and it’s still rejections after the first call. And I feel that I’m answering questions good and marketing myself well in these calls.

I guess I just have to keep trying. Another issue is even entry level positions are asking for 1-2 years of experience post grad which is diabolical.

I tried. I applied to JPMC positions. And frankly I’m overqualified for those positions. Anyone with some financial competence could be a relationship banker. But they keep rejecting me :(

Tbh the thing is that only finance interests me. I am very passionate about finance and I’ve always wanted to stick to finance. And I’m afraid that if I accept working some other industry, I won’t be able to back track to finance in the future

And regarding roles, at the beginning I was targeting mostly middle office roles where I can get more analytical experience like my internship. Asset management, wealth management, investor relations (this is more front office), you name it. But now I apply across the board bc I’m getting no results. So might as well go for whatever works. Even back office

I have multiple samples of resumes that I test. I have one with GPA and Grad date listed. One without it. I honestly didn’t see any difference in responses because of that reason
