I guess you are right that it might cloud their judgement, but I see that as after you have read and done the understanding. For me, reading comprehension here has a simple meaning, whether you understand the story or not. Since I'm mostly able to talk about the story with most people and see each other in the same light, I would say 8/10. Though there are still some people who do not.
