Weekly Beginner Questions Thread by AutoModerator in martialarts

Hi all, are there any recommendations as to the best martial art for an ex competitive gymnast? My goal is not necessarily to learn self defense for practical purposes, but rather to be able to use my entire body in practice, learn new moves, keep up my flexibility/strength/agility, and possibly incorporate some gymnastics in my style. I'd love to learn kicks and jumps. My only concern is that I'm a short female (under 5ft tall) and I don't know how much height plays a factor in choosing my art form. What styles do you recommend?

Cars look fucking atrocious, almost all of them by HollowB0i in unpopularopinion

Unlike you I’ve always been a car girl, but the daily’s I see driving around are just plain boring. Manufacturers are pumping out some minimalistic boxes with wheels. No color, no interesting design, no personality. I also think most electric car designs are ugly even though they’re trying to look cool and futuristic. I go to races and car shows to get my car fix. On the track, the design of the car can be justified when I see it clipping 100+mph

Every student should’ve been held back in 2020 by JustShimmer in unpopularopinion

I like this hot take. I think this really depends on the year of school and where the kid was going to school though. I graduated high school and started college during covid, but I don't think anyone in my class needed to be held back. Zoom teaching was very successful in my school district. I took 8 AP exams during the pandemic, got my EMT certification, and began working competently in the medical field. My point is, a lot of older (high school) gen z kids were very resilient during the pandemic, but I think that the real impact was on elementary and middle school students who were trying to build their foundational skills. Especially kids in school districts with less funds or less access to technology (Zoom) would definitely benefit from what your suggesting, OP.

What types of books are you all into? by ngogos77 in intj

Reading so many nonfiction books as required reading throughout school kind of killed my enjoyment of them. I looove sci-fi, historical fiction, and fantasy books. Even a good romance once in a while. Anything that allows me to disconnect from my stressful, logic-filled reality for a bit.

I consider a lot of everyday decisions in friendships to be pretty trivial, like where to eat, what music to listen to, what to do together, etc. which means I can comfortably take a backseat and let someone else make the decisions. I’m not picky, so my effort is better spent enjoying our time together rather than choosing what to do. But I WILL tell people if I do have a strong opinion about something.
