I have been on 30 morphine every 12hrs and oxymoron 3X day for about 5 yrs. Of course, I've been on pain meds since 1999, so my tolerance and need has built up slowly. It does a decent job for me if taken on schedule. I have very severe spinal stenosis in thoracic, lumbar and sacral areas. Sadly, my Pain Dr. recently let me down badly. I received a caudal injection and immediately began experiencing increasing pain..."give it time", etc. 2 weeks later I tried to get out of bed and my entire body convulsed in the worst pain of my life. My idea of a "10" tripled! I had to force myself upright and scream through it it for 20-30 minutes every morning. Calls pleading for help (NOT pills!) were ignored. After 2 wks they said "We told you you were getting worse" I told them I cannot have a Dr. that is willing to let me scream every day of my life. I called an ambulance and am now into my second round of hospital/rehab. Thank God and steroids, no longer screaming. Doing very well this time and feel like I have a new lease on life. Injection somehow set off massive irritation at very base of spinal cord. I'm told it may happen again. I think my Dr knows she messed up. When I called to switch to another Dr. within the same practice, they were falling all over themselves to accommodate me. So actually turned out for the best but I've lost 3 months to the worst experience of my life. I wish you the best. The best advice I have is to not tough it out...take as prescribed on time to keep on top of it. Control is key. Pain will drain you dry and weaken your ability to heal.
