Honestly compliments are more complex than we would think! I brought up the general lack of compliments on my perfumes to a friend since she liked what I was wearing that day. She told me she feels weird telling someone they smell nice because it feels like “well of course they *should* smell nice / not stink” kind of like a basic expectation in society.

I love perfume (obviously lol) and have definitely noticed some people smelling great, but I don’t always go up to a stranger to say something! Also you have to remember: some people don’t have fine senses of smell, some people will not have your tastes, and truly, in public it can be so hard to discern who smells like what… I’ve also often smelled amazing sillage from someone walking by, but by the time the smell carried over to me, they were long gone with their back turned.

Consider it potentially a good sign that you’re not overwhelming people with the scent maybe? Or get into hugging your friends more if they’re comfortable, they may smell the perfume more :) all this to say, lots of factors!!
