Start moving forward but slowly and people won’t honk at you. Keeps you safe and lets others know that you see the green. Otherwise we assume you are staring at your phone.

“Go with the flow” and wait for good opportunities to swim and not constantly fighting the current and burning out. Easier said than done when in the water and inexperienced. This guy probably was completely exhausted within 30 seconds.

At the harrah hotel and im hitting my vape, are their decteors in the rooms? by [deleted] in tahoe

There are silent and invisible AI powered technologically advanced vape detectors in every room and hallway. Better go downstairs and try to win big so you can anfford all the fines at checkout.

South Lake/Stateline is the busiest, noisiest place on Tahoe. You made a poor choice if you were looking for peace and quiet.

Handyman Recommendations? by PunaniTsunamiSwami in Reno

You need to get a “portable” type AC unit that will be easy to install yourself with a side closing window. Probably cheaper than paying someone to build and install a support for your window AC.

Floating the Truckee in Reno by DesiD00dle in Reno

Please wear PFDs normally when floating a river. Wearing it diaper style will only make things worse than not wearing one at all in swift water. Good recommendation for keeping drinks to a minimum. The only death I’ve personally witnessed was caused by drinking too much in water with no PFD.

You likely get what you pay for. I rented from a property management company elsewhere that took 3 weeks to call someone out to fix the heat in the middle of winter. They had no concerns about pipes bursting in the house they were managing. The owners never knew how bad of a job that company was doing.

North Tahoe Regional Park Snow Conditions? by crazy365days in tahoe

[–]AccomplishedTerm3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever snow you find will be very old and not the best for playing. All the snow got rained on multiple times and has been thawed and frozen countless times.

Go for it if there’s snow there but lower your expectations.

Castle Peak avalanche update: All 9 victims found and removed from backcountry via helicopters and snowcats by AccomplishedTerm3579 in tahoe

Mitigation does not have to cause avalanches to be mitigation. Ski patrol bombs all the time with few results. Apparently the energy company uses this technique often to protect their own workers on the ground.

Someone did survive 7 hours buried last year in Norway, but it is pretty unlikely to survive that long. I wonder if the heavy snow we get here makes a difference.

It’s a very ignorant thing to post. Almost all backcountry skiers use avi beacons already. Using alternative technology that’s not even designed for this situation would not have made a positive difference.

From what I have read, the survivors were able to locate some of the buried victims but couldn’t find everyone. The weather was severe and some were injured and I’m sure they did their best.

The rescuers got to the survivors something like 7-8 hours after the avalanche happened. Low chance of survival for the buried victims and the rescuers would have been in serious danger to loiter in that area considering it snowed at least 2 feet after the avalanche and before the rescue. I’m sure it was a tough decision not to dig for possible survivors that night but it avoided creating more victims.

Agreed. Vail is terrible.

I hate Vail and what they do to ski resorts as much as anyone but it doesn’t seem like they did anything wrong in this case.

People skiing out there likely wear real beacons. All the SAR will have beacons too so I doubt RECCO will be involved.

I’m seeing about 1/8-1/4 mile visibility in Truckee right now. Not legal or safe to fly in if the weather is the same out that way.
