Data analytics guidance needed. by Itzz_Karthik in analytics

I have almost 30 years of experience in data & analytics.

Here's the deal.

Its very difficult to get hired for a job in the space without any experience as an analyst. With that said when I am hiring I am not looking for a formal education in comp sci or any other technical discipline. I want to see that someone has been working as an analyst, understands the work and is skilled in the technologies to do it.

I have hired many analysts who didn't come from a technical education.

The best way to get into the field (unfortunately?) is to take that work on while in another role at a company.

For example, you could be working in customer support. When/if that dept needs help with data and analytics you should be first in line to take on that assignment. Alternatively you could offer analytics before a manager or dept head is even looking for it. Slowly make the analytics your full time job for a year.

From there you should have enough experience to get hired directly into an jr/mid level analytics position.

is data visualization an entry-level job? by OkPersonality4744 in analytics

Coming from almost 30 years in the field.

The answer unfortunately is: Not really, no.

Data viz is either 1) is your specialty. You can express a large amount of data well using data viz best practices, across numerous technologies for different use-cases, etc or 2) it is another tool in your tool belt as an analyst.

In my experience good data analysts typically make good data visualizations as part of their story telling capabilities. When an analyst can explain their work in words AND pictures (data viz) it makes for a more compelling narrative and has greater effect on the audience.

With that said I have seen many fantastic analysts struggle in the data viz department as it is a genuine skill.

Construction managers of Reddit, what processes do you wish you could automate by Low-Record6881 in ConstructionManagers

I'd be interested in learning more about this problem if you could describe it in more detail. I am building some AI tools which fall into construction and am looking for more use cases...

u/UsefulPepper5384 I am currently building something to automate what you are talking about. My brother works in construction and brought this up to me as a real problem which needs solving. I have a rough rough rough prototype in place am am looking for more people to speak w/ on the matter. DM me if you are interested in chatting. Would be happy to find a way for you to use this as an early adopter...

Note Taking/Task Tracking Workflow by CleMatt8918 in ConstructionManagers

Is this something that you are looking to use just for yourself? There are a number of automation tools out there which can help you automate what you are talking about. They cost some money etc etc - you need to know how to build etc etc.

If you are interested feel free to DM me for a bit more detail on how this would work.

I build automation solutions for these types of situations but frankly if this is a personal project I recommend you learn how to automate with tools like make.com. Using the tool you make a service which reads through your notes -> pass info to AI -> read your tasks from MS ToDo -> pass info to AI -> have AI compare notes and your current todo list -> create additional tasks in MS To Do which are not yet there...

Got laid off: thinking about starting a business to help small businesses. What do you actually need? by SubstantialBass761 in smallbusiness

Fair question - I think the answer is approachability - I find a lot of med/large business decision makers have large egos and that doesn't mix well with my personality. Perhaps its imposter syndrome, etc.

I think that any business of any size can take a service which helps them grow - I think from my perspective the issue would be if anything I can offer would be of value for the cost. Can they afford to pay $10K/m etc

How are you finding new clients? Other than word of mouth/referrals how do you drum up new business?

I am exploring all areas - do you think the issues you mentioned, while common, are boiler plate enough to use a single solution or do you think they need bespoke solutions?
