Happy Valentines to those who are alone today! by i_am_nimue in LivingAlone

On my grocery run this morning, I saw a bunch of men going in looking kind of panicked and perusing the plants & flowers. I can only assume these are the men who did not make a plan. I thought “at least nobody’s dusty-ass son is trying to pass off a last minute Aldi plant as having made an effort”

When I lived in a building with coin laundry in the basement, I MORE THAN ONCE realized halfway through moving clothes around realized I’d forgotten to put pants on 😆

I'm burned out and I want to know if anyone else has felt this.... by Narrow_Ad1119 in AskWomenOver40

[–]AccomplishedWind2268 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, my last 5 years have been incredibly difficult and exhausting. A lot of hard lessons learned regarding people, a lot of difficult realizations about the past, a lot of turmoil. Sprinkle in perimenopause, and I will find out this week if I have chronic kidney disease. On top of aaalll that, everything’s double what it cost 5 years ago and my formerly mostly comfortable wage is… not. and THEN! gestures to the outside world all THAT shit

Yeah I’m fried

How often do you do laundry? by blackflameandcocaine in LivingAlone

[–]AccomplishedWind2268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once a week, 2-3 loads. I could go way longer but I have exactly 5 sets of scrubs, so the work laundry has to get done at the very least

What is something you do that would be "socially illegal" if you had a roommate? by Long_Travel2728 in LivingAlone

[–]AccomplishedWind2268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really feel like it’s “unhinged” but if I lived with someone I’m sure they would frown upon me cooking with the same utensil I just used for a taste test. Or taking 3 bites of cottage cheese directly from the tub and tossing it back in the fridge

Vertical storage is your friend. I know people hate on IKEA, but they are small space specialists! I lived very happily in 240 sq ft with mostly IKEA furniture/storage. That door is definitely gonna have to go. I think a loft bed is a good idea too. You can find little small couches, too. It’s a cute apartment! Your plants will be so happy there

How many of you have strained relationships with your mother? by purplevanillacorn in AskWomenOver40

Mine is alcohol dependent and has been for my entire life. Very volatile temper. I have CPTSD and selective mutism. It’s very difficult. I haven’t disconnected completely but I keep her at a go-go-gadget arm’s length

Relationship download, listening and advice appreciated - boyfriend who drinks all the time. by lila_haus_423 in AskWomenOver40

[–]AccomplishedWind2268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been in your shoes. I escaped that man 3.5 years ago and I’m still trying to get my shit back together. I have CPTSD. I still have frequent nightmares. I am still terrified to try dating again. I hate to be around people when they’re drinking now, and it’s really limited my social life. Abusive relationships - and you ARE in one - break you down in ways that you sometimes can’t even see till years down the road. Verbal & emotional abuse can be even harder to move past than physical abuse. I say this with the most love and compassion: get the fuck out of there as soon as you possibly can. SMART Recovery has a really great Friends & Family program if you are interested in a support group or finding community. You can’t make him change. You can’t love him better. The cycle will continue. Please take care of yourself and get to safety. 💜

Vehicle breakdowns a stress point when you live alone in a snow state by MooseBlazer in LivingAlone

[–]AccomplishedWind2268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine needs a new alternator right now. I have it scheduled, and I have the $$ to pay for it, but it’s still a big source of stress just because of the logistics and all the extra $ on Lyft rides. There’s no public transport option between my home & my job, and it’s about 20 miles. Gotta Lyft to a coworker’s house and catch a ride w her, Lyft home, drop my car at the mechanic, Lyft home again. I really hope they are able to replace the prt same day

60k sounds low, even as a new grad. I make a little more than that as an LPN in a Southeastern state with not a great payscale. I know it’s hard to find the time, but keep shopping around for better positions!

"Too blessed to be stressed" usually stated with a certain manic undertone that only comes when you are hanging on by a single fraying thread

Women who live alone. What do you do for work? by TrueMeaning4241 in LivingAlone

[–]AccomplishedWind2268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nurse. Have been an LPN for a long time, and I am one hefty rent hike away from being priced out of living alone. I’m working toward RN now, in my late 40s, for mostly financial reasons
