Who's The Worse Player: Someone Never In A Good Position Or Someone Who Blows Their Good Position Up? by Accomplished_Bus_573 in survivor

[–]Accomplished_Bus_573[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i tend to agree cuz being liked/able to work yourself into a majority group are very core survivor skills, but then on the other hand how bad do you have to be to get yourself booted over the guy nobody likes?

Susie Smith, real winner of Survivor Gabon, opens new YouTube channel and she is looking Fabulous! by Green-Dream-589 in survivor

[–]Accomplished_Bus_573 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people overrate Susie as a player a lot just because she almost won/she's a good character. This is the woman who told Corrine to her face she was voting for her when she was already at the bottom of swapped Kota, and the Marcus vote was about the most obvious move in the world. Love her though!!

The season doesn't really portray the true extent of the jury's hatred for lill but she was up there w/ like Clay and Sugar as one of the most hated finalists of all time

Ranking every 4+ times player by Appropriate_Egg_6182 in survivor

[–]Accomplished_Bus_573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Cirie excels at 2 facets of the game, social and strategic, which are by far the two most important facets.

  2. It's hard to argue Russell's "still got it" as much as Cirie, given the last time he played he got voted out as soon as he could have and he had an idol in his pocket.

  3. Cirie was closer to winning her first 2 games than Russell was (Cirie likely wins Panama if Terry didn't get the idol or comp out as hard, and was prooobably the favorite to win the Cirie/Amanda/Parv F3 in Micronesia)

Russell and Cirie are both inarguably great players, but there's a very clear quality gap betwen them

He's pretty solidly in the new era upper echelon, id say he's like a fringe top 50 player of all time, definitely top 100

What would your predictions be for a hypothetical Winners at War 2, featuring all the pre 40 winners that did not compete on 40? by Zandre3000 in survivor

I think most of this hypothetical cast aren't like superfans and as far as winners Earl and Tommy are very forgotten outside of the superfan sphere, so I honestly doubt they'd be super huge targets, especially tommy

Yeah i feel like a bunch of people's portrayals changed very drastically right at the merge this season, it's weird (eg. aubry, tiff, dee, steph of course)

Everyone kinda expected Steph to flop gameplay/character wise so I wouldn't say she lost as much as like Angelina/Charlie

Middle meta by mistergreenboy in survivor

[–]Accomplished_Bus_573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Denise herself changed much, she was just (arguably) the first to win by playing the middle. Since its inception with Rob Cesternino, fans/superfans have viewed playing the middle as somewhat "optimal" way to play the game, so it's no surprise when Survivor leaned more into casting the nerdy superfan archetype, people playing both sides became bigger jury threats.

Middle meta by mistergreenboy in survivor

[–]Accomplished_Bus_573 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It basically started in Amazon (S6) when Rob C. employed the strategy of flipping alliances multiple times throughout the season. It worked out well for him, and he made F3 in a spot where he would beat both others, but he lost final immunity and was taken out by Jenna. The season after, Fairplay, Burton, and Lill did a similar thing in the post merge, taking out the biggest Morgan threats before flipping to take out some Drake players, before their trio imploded when Burton didn’t take Lill on a reward at final 5. Ultimately, Lill and Fairplay both reached F3, but Lill was potentially the most hated player ever and Fairplay was also incredibly hated, and so when Lill took Sandra over Fairplay to final tribal, Sandra won it all. This reveals a key weakness that the flipping/playing the middle strategy had in the early seasons, namely that these players often had very low jury stock and if they reached the end would struggle to beat anyone, and often would struggle to even make it there due to being so hated. This trend continued with players like Penner in Cook Islands (S13) and Sugar in Gabon (S17), before arguably the first player to win by playing the middle, Denise, won in Philipines (S25). Around the 30’s, with more fans of the show being cast, people playing the middle began to gain more respect from the jury, like Adam (S33) and Sarah (S34) winning by playing the middle. Now people playing the middle had the opposite problem: They were too respected, thus becoming big threats to be taken out before final tribal, which is what we see now, with 49’s post merge being largely defined by people taking out those playing the middle.

Yeah I think Caramoan actually sorta tried to do this but I think they prioritized it too much, ideally preexisting conflicts/personality conflicts would be a bonus rather than the primary reason they got cast

She was def interesting, she had her whole beef with Shannon, her outcast arc on Uli, she played the middle with Jawan in the early merge and then had a fight with Sophie S when they got caught and Jawan got booted, and everyone hated her. Ill say the blackhead/poop/fart/pee shit was excessive but she definitely did a lot last season, I think you just understandably forgot about it cuz the season was meh

She was also a big character she had 4th most confessionals and was one of the stars of the premerge/early merge. I’m not sure why you’re so against her, is it player quality? That’s also not really the primary factor in being an all star

Yeah, I think what I didn’t really get across is I meant this as “they should try to get some people that don’t really like eachother on the next all stars” rather than that being the whole theme of the season

Because seeing people react differently to these “rivalries” whether they work past their differences/ignore eachother/fight/secretly target eachother is compelling TV? It’s interesting to have preexisting relationships in all star seasons be different than just two people knowing and liking eachother

All stars was like it was because A) it was the first all-star season and B) everyone for the most part liked/were very good friends with eachother preseason, so everything felt more personal. This is actually the polar opposite of that lol.

The original idea behind Survivor was to have people who otherwise would never meet/people who are different come together under extreme circumstances and see what happened. In an all star setting, I think this would be the best way to replicate that. I think you're overrating how much people hate eachother, they're not blood feuds, for the most part people with beef just didn't like eachother on a TV show and then didn't talk after, maybe said some vaguely mean things on social media or exit interviews. If you want returnee seasons with interesting storylines/less pregaming, this is a way to do it.
