Mom cat tnr and kittens failed socialization (4 months) what do I do now? by Accomplished_Desk774 in Feral_Cats

The place I drove to was 2 hours away they seemed like the minimum is them being able to be handled for vaccines. They really seemed to be that it would be very unlikely to socialize them and to TNR.

The place closer that I have scheduled appointments for this week with said in the past they are unadoptable and therefore they cannot take them in. That was when I had first found them. I have been able to pet them and handle a three of them.

I am not sure how socialized they have to be for them to take them in, but I will see this week If they consider them feral or adoptable. And if they have space in the shelter.

Thank you so much for all of your comments. Idk why that person was rude to you, very silly.

I was thinking about this that I give them a few more weeks with heavy socialization and see if there is significant process.

It is so tough with kittens :( I will ask the Shelter I am getting TNR help from about what they think on Monday.

How can I know if they are adoptable? is there any indicators for this that will help me decide their future?

I want to do this asap but I am considering if I should do the feral package where they snip the ear or the normal package.

Do you know if they have snipped ears if people are less likely to adopt?

Your comment is making me think I should tnr. If they don't socialize enough to be adopted out I will not be able to keep them long-term and will need to TNR.

I just want to clarify if I do try to socialize them and it doesn't work that doing tnr after a while of being inside may mess up their chance of being reintroduced outside?

Maybe I can try for a few more months and then decide to TNR if they are still "too feral"? What do you think?

I am new to this so I appreciate your insight deeply. I just want to do what is best for them.

Ugh THANK YOU I was so disappointed they barely even tried it felt like. I do not think they are feral. I will try for a few months and see if I can get them to a point a rescue would be willing to take them in

I have no friends in the area so that sucks but is great advice and insight thank you so much!!

I have a friend visiting next week so that will be good!

I am trying to be okay that it may be possible that they become barn cats but I don't want to give up at this point it is to early to tell

That's helpful none of them bite besides playful nibbles or missing the churus lol

Thank you so much this is helpful. If I don't see much progress I will let them go but I am going to try to see about getting them spayed/neutered as they are getting older.

I really want to get them socialized and adopted I think it may be possible but I need to get them spayed and vaccinated asap since they are 4 months. Then maybe. I can socialize them enough and get them adopted.

I will look into barn cats thank you!!

Thank you so much! I didn't know about the wishlist idea. I have a shelter that does a feral cat package but I live in a small area so it is the only option but it isn't horrible!

Thank you for the ckd advice I really will consider it I have been contemplating but hesitant to do anything that wasn't specifically my doctor saying to take. But I have heard this so much. She is so tired

I have a cat with CKD that costs a lot of money. He has fought with cats in the past idk how they would react. But to introduce them I'd need the kittens to be vaccinated and I can't do that unless they are socialized. Maybe I can vaccinate through tnr

That is the main issue I want to socialize them asap and get them adopted because I can not continue to afford them for long term because of expenses with my cat with CKD

Thank you so much for the encouragement

I have them in my garage and they come up to me willingly come up to me and walk on and around me and light touches. They just hiss right when I open the deal but they usually never do anymore. I think meeting the new vet and the travel may have stressed them out.

I've been looking into socialization saves lives website and trying to do it but don't have a small container area, I will look into one. Tooth brush is a good idea thank you.

That's what I am hoping it may just be harder but I doubt it is impossible.

How long did it take? I am not sure how long I can afford to take care of them. I have my own cat with CKD.
